Abstract
The present invention relates to a biological inoculant composition for inducing agarwood formation of trees belonging to the family of Thymelaeaceae, particularly from the Aquilaria genus. The biological inoculant uses an effective microorganism to induce the agarwood formation, wherein the effective microorganism infects the tree causing the wood of the tree to produce resin as a protective response towards the infection. The resin produced accumulates in the wood and transforms the wood into agarwood. The biological inoculant does not contain chemical agents, thus it is non- toxic and environmentally friendly. As it is non-toxic, the agarwood produced is safe to be used in producing materials for human use such as perfume, incense, tea and medicine. Moreover, the time required to produce agarwood is minimized as the biological inoculant accelerates the agarwood formation, wherein the agarwood produced is of high quality.
