Abstract

A method (4) of making a spanner (8) includes steps of preparing a flat metal blank (5) formed by heating and flattening a rough material, initially press-forging the flat metal blank (5) to divide the blank (5) into a head (51) and a shank (52), with the shank (52) having a reduced width (w2) smaller than a width (w1) of the non-forged head (51), pressing the head (51) to form a first arch-shaped part (d1), pressing a shank end (521) of the shank (52) to expand the shank end (521) and then form a second arch-shaped part (d2), and pressing the head (51) and the shank end (521) again to remove residual scrap from the first arch-shaped part (d1) and the second arch-shaped part (d2) and punch a finished hole (81) and a second finished hole (82) in the head (51) and the shank end (521) respectively. Accordingly, a finished or shaped spanner (8) is obtained without pressing the entire blank (5), thereby reducing the waste of material and processing cost. The use of the flat metal blank (5) also facilitates a decrease in the use frequency of high-cost machines and promotes the processing efficiency. (Figure 8)
