Abstract
According to embodiments of the present invention, a method for installing a multi-section suction caisson is provided. The method includes positioning a first section (202) of the multi section suction caisson on an underwater ground; applying a suction pressure to a first inner chamber (208) of the first section (202), and subsequently removing an amount of soil plug (222) from the first inner chamber (208); positioning a second section (302) of the multi-section suction caisson in alignment over the first section (202), wherein the first section (202) has an inner diameter larger than an outer diameter of the second section (302); and applying the suction pressure to a second inner chamber (308) of the second section (302).
