Abstract
A thermophilic anaerobic microorganism is cultured in the presence of cellulose and ?-glucosidase, whereby a cellulase is produced to decompose the cellulose into a saccharide such as cellooligosaccharide, the resultant cellooligosaccharide is further decomposed with ?-glucosidase into glucose and the glucose is accumulated in a culture medium. Alternately, a thermophlic anaerobic microorganism is cultured the presence of a mixture of starch and cellulose, ?-glucosidase, (?-amylase and glucoamylase, whereby a cellulase is produced to decompose the starch-cellulose mixture into glucose and the glucose is accumulated in a culture medium.
