Abstract
The present invention discloses a process of producing high purity gamma (y) and alpha (a) alumina from both white and black aluminium dross waste. In one embodiment, aluminium dross wastes are washed and calcined to produce gamma (y) alumina. In another embodiment, the washed dross wastes can also be reacted in dilute sulphuric acid at elevated temperature to produce aluminium sulphate solution. The solution is then precipitated with an alcohol group and recovered as aluminium hydroxide and hydrous aluminium sulphate precipitate. The precipitates are dried and calcined to produce high purity alpha (a) alumina.
