Abstract

The purpose of the present invention is to efficiently use a neutralizer in the wet smelting of nickel oxide ore. In this neutralizing method for neutralizing, with limestone and hydrated lime, a slurry that includes sulfuric acid and impurities and that has been produced by the wet smelting of nickel oxide ore, neutralization treatment is performed through: a first neutralizing step for neutralizing sulfuric acid by adding limestone to the slurry, and producing hydroxides of some of the impurities; a gas elimination step for eliminating, from the slurry, carbon dioxide gas produced in the first neutralizing step; and a second neutralizing step for producing hydroxides of the rest of the impurities by adding hydrated lime to the slurry after the gas elimination step.
