Abstract

THE PRESENT INVENTION PROVIDES A SYSTEM FOR SEPARATING AND REMOVING PHYSICALLY EMULSIFIED, FREE OIL DROPLETS AND SUSPENDED SOLIDS FROM DOMESTIC AND INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER. THE SYSTEM COMPRISES A CIRCULAR SEPARATION TANK (100) WITH INCLINED DUAL ANGLE COALESCING PLATES (130) AND A CENTER-FEED PERFORATED INLET PIPE (110) THAT DIRECTS UNIFORM COUNTER-CURRENT INFLUENT FLOW TO THE DUAL ANGLES PARALLEL COALESCING PLATES (130) FOR REMOVAL OF EMULSIFIED AND FREE OILS FROM WASTEWATERS. THE SYSTEM APPLIES THE PRINCIPLE OF BOYCOTT EFFECT WHEREBY THE PRESENCE OF INCLINED PLATES (130) MEDIUM PROMOTES FASTER RISING OF OIL DROPLETS OR FALLING OF SUSPENDED SOLIDS AND THEIR COALESCENCE AND COAGULATION. THE SEPARATOR ALSO TAKES THE SHAPE OF CIRCULAR TANKS (100) TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CONTINUAL DECREASING IN HORIZONTAL VELOCITY AS SURFACE AREA INCREASES WITH RADIUS.
