A STRUCTURE INCLUDES A CHANNEL WAVEGUIDE (68) AND A POCKET (62) ADJACENT TO AN INPUT FACET (70) OF THE CHANNEL WAVEGUIDE. A LASER (76) HAVING AN OUTPUT FACET (78) IS POSITIONED IN THE POCKET (62). THE STRUCTURE INCLUDES A STOP (64,66) ON EITHER THE LASER (76) OR A WALL (74) OF THE POCKET (62). THE STOP (64,66) IS POSITIONED AT AN INTERFACE BETWEEN THE LASER (76) AND THE WALL (74) OF THE POCKET (62) SUCH THAT THE OUTPUT FACET (78) OF THE LASER (76) AND THE INPUT FACET (70) OF THE WAVEGUIDE (68) ARE SEPARATED BY A GAP.
