A SOUND ABSORBING STRUCTURE 1 IS PROVIDED WITH: A HOUSING 2 HAVING, ON ONE SURFACE THEREOF, A SURFACE PLATE 2A FORMED OF A POROUS PLATE; AND A PLURALITY OF POROUS PLATE UNITS 3 EACH FORMED OF A POROUS PLATE AND DISPOSED INSIDE THE HOUSING 2. THE PLURALITY OF POROUS PLATE UNIT 3 IS DISPOSED SO AS TO BE ALIGNED IN A DIRECTION OF THE SURFACE OF THE SURFACE PLATE 2A. THE POROUS PLATE UNITS 3 ARE PROVIDED WITH: TWO FLAT PORTIONS 3A AND 4A DISPOSED SO AS TO FACE THE SURFACE PLATE 2A; AND SIDE PORTIONS 3B AND 4B COUPLED TO THE FLAT PORTIONS 3A AND 4A, RESPECTIVELY, AND EXTENDING IN A DIRECTION INTERSECTING THE SURFACE PLATE 2A.
