IN A TEMPORARY WELDING STEP OF A VEHICLE BODY (2), AN APPARATUS FOR POSITIONING VEHICLE BODY PARTS (10) FOR CARRYING OUT POSITIONING OF A ROOF PANEL (7) AND LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE MEMBERS (6, 6) HAS A PAIR OF FIRST CONTACT PORTIONS (18, 18) ATTACHED TO A POSITIONING BODY (12) VIA A RAIL PORTION (15) AND A SLIDE MEMBER (16) PROVIDED MOVABLY IN THE DIRECTION OF WIDTH OF THE VEHICLE, AND A PAIR OF SECOND CONTACT PORTIONS (19, 19) ATTACHED TO THE POSITIONING BODY (12) VIA THE RAIL PORTION (15) AND THE SLIDE MEMBER (16) PROVIDED MOVABLY IN THE DIRECTION OF WIDTH OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST CONTACT PORTIONS (18, 18) AND THE SECOND CONTACT PORTIONS (19, 19) BOTH CAN BE INSERTED INTO LEFT AND RIGHT GROOVE PORTIONS (8, 8) FORMED IN WELDING EDGE PORTIONS, RESPECTIVELY. THE FIRST CONTACT PORTIONS (18, 18) BOTH COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE INNER SIDE FACES (6A, 6A) OF THE SIDE MEMBERS (6, 6) BY BEING MOVED OUTWARDLY IN THE DIRECTION OF WIDTH OF THE VEHICLE IN A STATE OF BEING INSERTED, AND THE SECOND CONTACT PORTIONS (19, 19) BOTH COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE OUTER SIDE FACES (7A, 7A) OF THE ROOF PANEL (7) BY BEING MOVED INWARDLY IN THE DIRECTION OF WIDTH OF THE VEHICLE IN A STATE OF BEING INSERTED. THE CLEARANCE (W1) BETWEEN THESE FIRST CONTACT PORTIONS (18, 18) AND THE CLEARANCE (W1) BETWEEN THE SECOND CONTACT PORTIONS (19, 19) ARE BOTH VARIABLE, AND ARE CONTROLLED SO THAT THEY CAN BE EACH SET TO HAVE A PREDETERMINED DIMENSION DEPENDING ON THE TARGET TYPE OF VEHICLE.
