Abstract
THE PRESENT INVENTION DESCRIBES A COMPOSITE MATERIAL SADDLE (12) THAT IS ATTACHED TO A SURFACE OF A PIPE (10) FOR PREVENTING DIRECT CONTACT BETWEEN THE PIPE (10) AND A BEARER (14). THIS PREVENTS THE ABRASION CONTACT WHICH DAMAGES AND WEAKENS THE PIPE (10). THE PIPE SADDLE (12) INCLUDES AT LEAST ONE LAYER OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL (16, 28, 20). THE LAYERS CAN BE THE SAME COMPOSITE MATERIAL OR DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS. THE COMPOSITE MATERIALS ARE SELECTED FROM A GROUP CONSISTING OF CARBON COMPOSITE, KEVLAR COMPOSITE, FIBER REINFORCED PLASTIC (FRP) COMPOSITE, GLASS REINFORCED PLASTIC (GRP) COMPOSITE, INTER-WOVEN MAT AND NON INTER-WOVEN MAT.
