IN A 4 STROKE CYCLE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE HAVING AN INTAKE VALVE (13) AND AN EXHAUST. VALVE (14) OPENED AND CLOSED BY AN INTAKE CAM (17) AND AN EXHAUST CAM (18) MADE INTEGRAL WITH A CAMSHAFT (19)/ A DECOMPRESSION CAM (35) IS FITTED ON THE CAMSHAFT (19) NEIGHBORING AT LEAST ONE OF THE INTAKE CAM (17) AND THE EXHAUST CAM (18) THROUGH A ONE-WAY CLUTCH (34) CAPABLE OF TRANSMITTING TORQUE ONLY WHEN THE CAMSHAFT (19) ROTATES IN REVERSE. A CAM ROLLER (32) ROLLING IN CONTACT WITH THE INTAKE CAM (17) OR THE EXHAUST CAM (18) IS PIVOTALLY SUPPORTED ON AN END OF A ROCKER ARM (26/ 27) FOR OPENING THE INTAKE VALVE (13) OR THE EXHAUST VALVE (14), A DECOMPRESSION CAM CONTACT SECTION (33) OF THE ROCKER ARM (26/ 27) TOUCHING THE DECOMPRESSION CAM (35) IS FORMED ON AN END OF THE ROCKER ARM (26/ 27) SUPPORTING THE CAM ROLLER (32). AXIAL LENGTH OF THE CAM ROLLER (32) AND WIDTH OF THE ROCKER ARM (26/ 27) CAN BE MADE SMALL, POWER FOR DRIVING A VALVE MOVING APPARATUS CAN BE REDUCED AND THE DECOMPRESSION DEVICE CAN BE MINIATURIZED. A STOPPER PIECE (41) PENETRATES SO AS TO SLIDE A THROUGH HOLE (40A) OF A STOPPER PIECE SUPPORT SECTION (40) PROVIDED IN A CYLINDER HEAD. AN ENGAGING PROJECTION (39A) FORMED ON A PERIPHERY OF THE DECOMPRESSION CAM (35) IS RETAINED BY THE STOPPER PIECE (41).
