A DISPLAY DEVICE COMPRISING A WAVELENGTH SELECTIVE ABSORPTION FILM COMPOSED OF AN INORGANIC POLYMER CHEMICALLY BONDING AN ORGANIC COLORING MATTER HAVING AN ABSORPTION BAND OF LIGHT WAVELENGTHS OF 400 TO 600 NM ON THE SURFACE OF A FACE PLATE OF THE DISPLAY DEVICE. SINCE THE ORGANIC COLORING MATTER IS CHEMICALLY BONDED TO THE INORGANIC SKELETON, THE DURABILITY IS OUTSTANDING, THE INORGANIC COLORING MATTER DOES NOT OOZE, AND THE CONCENTRATION OF THE ORGANIC COLORING MATTER CAN BE INCREASED. THEREBY, IT IS POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN A DISPLAY DEVICE HAVING A HIGH COLOR PURITY AND HIGH CONTRAST.
