Abstract

THE SIM-CARD (10) FOR USERS OF A TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK (2) CONTAINS AT LEAST ONE COUNTER (1002), WHICH IS INCREMENTED WHEN A RESOURCE (A-F) NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TRAFFIC PROCESS IS USED IN THE SIMCARD. AN AMOUNT TO BE BILLED TO THE USER IS DETERMINED FROM THE COUNTER VALUE. A BILLING RECORD WITH THE AMOUNT TO BE BILLED IS PREPARED AND TRANSMITTED TO A BILLING CENTRE (42) IN SAID TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK (2). THE BILLED-FOR RESOURCE MAY BE A SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE RESOURCE. THE FEE MAY BE A LICENCE, TRAFFIC, OR SERVICE FEE. MOREOVER, THE USAGE OF A SINGLE RESOURCE MAY CAUSE MORE THAN ONE COUNTER TO INCREMENT, FOR EXAMPLE A FIRST COUNTER FOR THE LICENCE FEES, A SECOND COUNTER FOR THE TRAFFIC FEES, AND A THIRD COUNTER FOR THE SERVICE FEES.(FIG. 2).
