THE SPLIT TYPE AIR CONDITIONER OF THE PRESENT INVENTION HAVING AN INDOOR UNIT AND AN OUTDOOR UNIT IS PROVIDED WITH A MECHANICAL TEMPERATURE DETECTOR IN THE OUTDOOR UNIT TO DETECT THE FROSTED CONDITION OF AN OUTDOOR HEAT EXCHANGER, AND ACTIVATES THE CT IN THE INDOOR DRIVE CIRCUIT OF AN OUTDOOR FAN MOTOR AS RECEIVING MEANS SUPPLIED WITH A FROST DETECTION SIGNAL DELIVERED FROM THE MECHANICAL TEMPARATURE DETECTOR SO AS TO DELIVER A DE-ICE OPERATION START SIGNAL ON THE BASIS OF THE INFORMATION FROM THE CT.
