Abstract

THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO NOVEL PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING CALCITONINS, AND TO A NOVEL METHOD OF ENHANCING THE ABSORPTION OF A CALCITONIN ACROSS A MUCOSAL MEMBRANE. THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION COMPRISES A CALCITONIN, AN EFFECTIVE AMOUNT OF AN ABSORPTION ENHANCER WHICH IS A GLYCYRRHIZINATE, AND A PHARMACEUTICALLY ACCEPTABLE CARRIER. THE PROCESS COMPRISES BRINGING THE CALCITONIN AND THE GLYCYRRHIZINATE INTO ASSOCIATION WITH THE CARRIER. THE GLYCYRRHIZINATE IS AMMONIUM GLYCYRRHIZINATE AND IS PRESENT IN A CONCENTRATION CORRESPONDING TO AT LEAST 0.1% (W/W) OF THE TOTAL WEIGHT OF THE COMPOSITION.
