(FORMULA 1)THE COMPOUNDS 1 (A1, A2 INDEPENDENTLY = H, C1-C5, HYDROCARBON, HETEROCYCLE UP TO 6 RING ATOMS, CARBOMONOCYCLE, PHENYLALKYL, PHENYLALKENYL; EACH (EXCEPT H) UNSUBSTITUTED OR SUBSTITUTED BY ONE OR MORE OF F, C1, CF3, C1-C5 ALKYL, C1-C5 ALKOXY, C1-C5 ALKYLTHIO, DI(C1-C5 ALKYL)-AMINO, DI(C1-C5 ALKYL)-AMINO-(C1-C5 ALKOXY), A- OR B -(C1-C5 ALKOXY)-N-PYRROLIDINYL) ARE ANTIDEPRESSIVE AGENTS. THEY ARE PREPARED BY REACTING CORRESPONDING 6-FORMYL-7-BENZYLOXY DERIVATIVES WITH 1- IMETHYLAMINOMETHYL-VINYLMAGNESIUM BROMIDE AT THE BOIL AND HYDROLUSING THE 7-BENZYLOXY GROUP IN THE RESULTANT INTERMEDIATE. PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING THEM ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
