Description

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PLACING LAWN BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to apparatus and methods for placing turf. Conventional lawn mowers are used to unroll large rolls of grass and produce a lawn. Said machines generally have a grass roll holding portion that can engage the turf roll, and a power train for driving the holding portion. These lawn mowing machines are dedicated machines only useful for placing or picking grass, and are expensive because they must include a power train. Most lawn mowers can raise the turf roll over the ground in such a way that the turf roll does not creep over the ground when transported to the location where the operator decides to lay the turf. However, at least with some of these machines, the turf rolls tend to unroll when the raised positions are present, thus making it difficult to control the place where the turf will be placed. Another problem associated with conventional turfing machines is that the machine holds the turf roll only in a lateral position relative thereto. Therefore, it is often difficult to use the machine to place the lawn along walls or fences.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The apparatus of the present invention is for use with a self-propelled vehicle. The vehicle has a mounting mechanism at the front end and a power mechanism. The front end mounting mechanism has a coupling coupling element adapted to couple so that the joint can be released. The power mechanism is adapted to move the joint coupling member between a joint coupling position, in which the coupling element is positioned in such a way as to support the joint in a suitable position to operate the joint, and a position of release of union in which the coupling element is placed to facilitate the release of the joint coupling element. The lawn mower consists of a turf unrolling unit that includes a support mechanism, and a turf holding mechanism connected to the support mechanism. The turf holding mechanism is adapted to hold a roll of turf in such a manner as to facilitate the rotation of the turf roll relative to the support mechanism. The support mechanism is adapted to detachably fit, and the joint coupling element supports it when the joint coupling element is in the coupling position, and is adapted to be released from the coupling element. of union when the joint coupling element is in its release position. Another aspect of the present invention is an apparatus for placing turf to unwind a roll of turf on a surface using a locking mechanism that prevents rotation of a grass-hooking member when in a closed position, and allows rotation of the turf. lawn hook element when it is not closed. The downward force on the lawn hook element opens the locking mechanism and the upward force closes it. Another aspect of the present invention is an apparatus for placing turf to unwind a turf roll that includes a razor for mowing grass. The lawn mower is adapted to cut an unwound portion from a lawn roll while a lawn engaging element supports a rolled portion of the lawn roll. Another aspect of the present invention is an apparatus for placing turf having a pair of arms for supporting a turf roll and movable relative to the chassis along a path transverse to a longitudinal path. The arms are move with an actuator. Another aspect of the present invention is a method for unwinding a turf roll with a turf-laying apparatus having a turf unrolling unit. The method comprises driving the vehicle carrying the turf roll from an initial position in which a vehicle coupling element is separated from a support mechanism of the turf unrolling unit to an aligned position in which the turf element Union coupling aligns and approaches a support mechanism; raising the link coupling element so as to cause it to mesh with the support mechanism and raise the turret unrolling unit; engaging the turf roll with a lawn engaging mechanism so as to facilitate the rotation of the turf roll relative to the support mechanism; and driving the vehicle, the turf unrolling unit and the turf roll so as to cause the unwinding of the turf roll along a longitudinal path.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED MODALITIES With reference to the drawings, and first of all in particular to Figures 1 to 4, an apparatus for laying turf of the present invention is indicated in full with the reference numeral 20. The turf laying apparatus 20 shown in figure 1 it consists of a lawn unrolling unit, generally indicated with the number 22, attached so that it can be released to a multi-use, self-propelled vehicle, generally indicated by the number 24. The vehicle 24 can be any vehicle suitable, such as a loader with skid steers or a tractor with a 3-point hitch. The main purpose of the lawn mower 20 is to unwind a roll of lawn 25 (shown in outline in figure 1) to produce a lawn. It should be understood that the turf roll 25 is a roll of spiral grass that has been rolled up to form a cylinder with the ground / roots facing outward and inward the grass side. As will be described in more detail below, the turf setter 20 is configured to lower the turf roll 25 onto a surface (such as a soil G) and push the turf roll forward (i.e., from right to left). as seen in the figure 1), so that when making contact with the ground, the turf roll rotates in a left-handed direction to unroll the grass roll with the unrolled portion positioned along an essentially longitudinal path followed by the vehicle. The vehicle 24 has a power mechanism 26 and a mounting mechanism at the front end 28. The front end mounting mechanism 28 has a pair of joint coupling elements (or teeth) 30 (only one shown in the figure) 1) connected to a front end of a davit 32 that is connected so that it can be rotated to the chassis of the vehicle 34. The teeth 30 are adapted to be releasably attached to a joint, that is, to a mechanism used together with the vehicle to develop a particular function. The power mechanism 26 consists of a pair of large linear drivers 36 for rotating the davit 32 relative to the chassis of the vehicle 34 and moving the teeth 30 between a raised position (i.e., a joint coupling position in which the teeth are placed in such a way as to support the joint in a position suitable for operating the joint) and a low position (i.e., a joint release position in which the teeth are placed to facilitate the release of the teeth from the joint ). The turf unrolling unit 22 consists of a frame (or support mechanism), generally indicated with the number 38, first (left) and second (right) arms 40, 42 extending forward, and elements of grass hooking that they extend inwardly first (left) and second (right) 44, 46 configured to grasp the opposite sides of the turf roll 25. The first and second arms 40, 42 are connected to the frame 38 by an upper and lower guide bar 48 , 50 fixed at its ends to the frame, the guide bars 48 and 50, generally horizontal, extend transversely (ie, along the longitudinal path). The arms 40, 42 are slidably supported on the bars 48, 50 by suitable journal blocks 52 to move the arms along the bars between the inward and outward laterally positions. In Figure 3, the arms 40, 42 are shown in their inward positions (i.e. positions relatively close to the center of the frame). The right arm 42 is shown in Figure 4 in its outward position adjacent the right end 54 of the frame 38. Although not shown, it should be understood that the left arm 40 is adjacent the left end 56 of the frame 28 when it is in its position out. Preferably, the frame 38 includes upper and lower bar support braces 58, 60 for supporting the central regions of the upper and lower guide bars 48, 50. The left arm 40 can be moved between its inward and outward positions by a The first linear driver 62 and the right arm 42 can be moved between their positions in and out by a second linear driver 64. Preferably, the linear drivers 62, 64 are pneumatic cylinders.
Although the arms preferably move between their positions in and out with linear impellers, it should be understood that other mechanisms, for example gear-type mechanisms, may be employed without departing from the scope of the invention. A rear end of a left pivot element (bar) 66 is pivotally connected to 68 (FIG. 2) to a front portion of the left arm 40. A rear end of a right pivot member (bar) 70 is pivotally connected to 72 (FIGS. 5 and 6). ) to a front portion of the right arm 42. The left turf engaging element 44 has a shaft 74 rotatably connected to a forward end of the left pivot rod 66 by a left bearing 76 for rotation of the left grass coupling element. in relation to the left arm 40 approximately on an X axis extending horizontally and transversely (figure 3 and 4). The right turf engaging element 46 has a shaft 78 which is rotatably connected to a forward end of the right pivot bar 70 by a right bearing 80 for rotation of the right turf engaging element relative to the right arm 42 near the X axis. The turf unrolling unit 22 further includes a left locking mechanism, generally indicated by 82, and a right locking mechanism, generally indicated by 84. The left locking mechanism 82 includes a left gear 86 and a left pin 88. The left gear 86 is fixed and rotated with the shaft 74 of the left grass engaging element 44, and the left pin 88 is fixed and extends inwardly from the forward end of the left arm 40. The right fixing mechanism 84 it includes a right gear 90 and a right pin 92. The right gear 90 is fixed and rotated with the shaft 78 of the right grass engaging element 46, and The right pin 92 is fixed and extended inwardly from the front end of the right arm 42. Preferably each sprocket 86, 90 has a substantially mesh-like shape and includes a plurality of radially extending teeth. As shown in figures 5 and 6, the right sprocket 90 can move relative to the right arm 42 between a down (fixed) position (figure 5) and a high (released) position (figure 6). When the gear 90 is in a fixed position, the right pin 92 engages the right sprocket 90 to fix the rotation of the wheel and the right turf engaging element 86 relative to the pin. When the right gear 90 is in the released position, is separated above the right pin 92 and, therefore, the right pin 92 does not prevent the wheel and the right turf engaging element 86 from rotating near the X axis. Although not specifically described, it should be understood that the mechanism Left fixator 82 operates in the same manner as right fixator 84. Due to this configuration, when the turf implement 20 supports the turf roll 25 so that the roll is separated on the ground (as shown in the figure) 1), then the weight of the turf roll and the weight of the grass hook elements 44, 46 cause the pivot bars 66, 70 to rotate down toward the lower fastening positions of the locking mechanism 82, 84. When the davit 32 of the vehicle 24 is lowered to press the turf roller 25 against the ground G, then the turf roller exerts a force directed upwardly against the grass engaging elements 44, 46 to cause the pivot rods 66, 70 to rotate upwards to the elevated released positions of the fastener mechanisms 82, 84. Preferably, the Limit blocks extended to the front 94 are fixed to the arms 40, 42 and so that they can be coupled to the pivot bars 66, 70 when the sprockets are in their elevated position (FIG. 6) to limit the upward movement of the lawn engaging elements 44, 46 relative to the arms. Referring now to Figures 3, 4, and 7, the turf unroll unit 22 further includes a turf cutting mechanism, generally indicated by 100. The turf cutting mechanism 100 includes a razor support plate 102 and cutting knife 104 secured so that it can be released to the knife holder plate. The knife holder plate 102 is secured to the lower ends of two vertical bars 106 extending upwardly through guide tubes 108 fixed to the frame 38. The bars 106 and the tubes 108 have a size and configuration that allow the bars slide up and down through the tubes to maintain the blade support plate 102 in a horizontal transverse orientation relative to the frame 38. The cutting blade 104 and the blade holder plate 102 can be moved vertically by a suitable drive mechanism, for example a linear driver 110. Preferably, the linear driver 110 consists of a vertically oriented air cylinder. The linear driver 110 moves the cutting knife 104 between an elevated position (shown in Figures 3 and 4) where the knife is separated above the ground G and is separated above any unrolled portion of the turf roll, and a low position (shown in Figure 7) in which the lower edge of the cutting knife extends at least partially towards the earth G to cut an unrolled portion of turf placed in the ground and located below the razor. Preferably, the cutting blade 104 has a length at least substantially the width of the turf roll and is positioned to extend along the entire width of the turf roll while the grass engaging elements 44, 46 support the roll of turf. lawn so that the lawn can be cut completely with a single movement of the cutting blade from its raised position to its low position. The cutting blade 104 (shown in Fig. 7) is relatively short and is therefore intended to be used with relatively narrow turf rolls. A longer cut knife replacement 112 (shown in silhouette in Figure 7) may be used when the turf implement 20 is used to place a wider roll of turf. While the turf apparatus unrolls the turf rolls, the frame 38, the cutting knife 104 and the vehicle 24 pass over the unwound turf portion. When the operator wishes to cut the unrolled turf portion, he stops the vehicle 24 at the desired location so that the cutting blade 104 is placed over the desired area. The user then operates the linear driver 110 to move the cutting blade to its low position to completely cut the grass portion. Referring now to Figures 7 through 9, the frame 38 further includes two separate impact plates 112, and a transversely extending biased flap 114. The impact plates 112 are welded or otherwise fixed to the plates. guide tubes 108 in a vertical orientation. The flap 114 is secured and traverses the rear faces of the impact plates 112. Preferably, the portion 114 is inclined relative to the impact plates 112, such that the underside of the flap and the rear faces of the impact plates form acute angles (as shown in Figures 8 and 9). The flap 114 and the impact plates 112 define receptacles 116 for receiving teeth (Figure 8) to receive the teeth 30 of the vehicle 24. During operation, to attach the turbine unrolling unit 22 to the vehicle 24, an operator drives or drives the vehicle forward towards the turntable unrolling unit until the teeth 30 at the front end of the jib 32 engage the rear of the impact plates 112. Then the operator drives the large linear drivers 36 to raise the front end of davit 32. Raising davit 32 causes teeth 30 to extend into tooth receiving receptacles 116 and shims between portion 114 and impact plates 112. The wedging action engages the teeth 30 so that they can be released to the frame 38. Due to the shape of the tooth receiving receptacles 116, another upward movement of the davit 32 lifts the turf unrolling unit 22 from the ground. Due to the receptacles 116, the teeth automatically mesh the receptacles in such a manner that they support the turf unrolling unit 22 to the davit movement 32 from a low position to an elevated position. Likewise, due to the location, shape and orientation of the receptacles, the teeth 30 automatically release the receptacles with the movement of the davit 32 from its raised position to its low position. Preferably, the vehicle includes a fastening mechanism (not shown) to secure the teeth 30 to the flap 116. The operator can generally secure the teeth 30 to the flap 116 by a fastening mechanism without leaving the vehicle 24. After the turf unroll unit 22 has securely attached to the vehicle 24, the operator connects the fluid lines (not shown) from the vehicle to fluid lines (not shown) of the turf unroll unit 22 to allow the operator operating the three linear drivers 62, 64, 110 of the turf unrolling unit. Then, the operator operates the first and second linear drivers 62, 64 to move the arms 40, 42 and the associated grass engaging elements 44, 46 to their outward positions. The operator then guides the vehicle 24 to a position in which the grass engaging elements 44, 46 are aligned with the axis of rotation of a turf roll. When in this position the linear drivers 62, 64 are operated to move the arms 40, 42 toward their inward positions until the grass engaging elements 44, 46 extend towards the ends of the turf roll. The operator then raises the davit 32 to raise the entire sod roll over the ground G. Preferably, the fluid controls for the linear thrusters 62, 64 are configured to allow the operator to selectively operate the linear drives independently or in tandem. Because of this, the impellers can be operated to change the grass coupling elements 44, 46 laterally (ie, to the right or to the left as shown in Figures 3 and 4). Figure 4 shows the turf unrolling unit 22 supporting a turf roll 25 in a laterally misaligned orientation relative to the frame 38. By laterally displacing or deflecting the turf roll relative to the frame, the position of the longitudinal path of the unrolled turf can be adjusted relative to the frame. In case it is convenient to have the roll of turf unwound next to the vehicle 24 (for example, when it is desired to place the turf next to a wall or fence), the operator can drive the impellers 62, 64 to move the turf roll towards the side mentioned. Due to the fastening mechanisms 82, 84, the turf roll can not rotate and therefore can not be unwound when the turf roll is separated from the ground. With the turf roll supported on the ground G, the operator guides the vehicle 24 and the attached turf unrolling unit 22 to a location where he wishes to place the turf. The operator then lowers the jib 32 to press the turf roll against the ground and thereby release the sprockets 86, 90 from the pins 88, 92, so that the turf roll can roll along the ground G. With the davit positioned in this manner, the operator can drive the vehicle 24 forward to unroll the turf roll along the longitudinal path. As the vehicle 24 moves forward, the cutting blade 104 passes along the longitudinal path and over the unrolled turf. After a desired length of turf is unwound from the turf roll, the operator then operates the knife driver 110 to press the cutting knife 104 through the uncoiling portion of the lawn to mow the lawn. In view of the foregoing, it will be seen that the various objects of the invention are achieved and other profitable results are obtained. As various changes can be made to the above constructions and methods without departing from the scope of the invention, it is intended that all of the material contained in the above description or that which is shown in the accompanying drawings should be construed as illustrative and not in any sense. limiting sense.
