APPLICATOR AND SET OF CONDITIONING AND APPLICATION USING AN APPLICATOR OF THIS TYPE
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to an applicator, mainly for make-up product as well as to a conditioning and application assembly using an applicator of this type. The invention is very particularly adapted for the products used for the makeup of the eyelashes, the eyebrows, the eyelids, etc. The invention relates in particular to liquid products whose viscosity is such that they can flow by gravity. By way of purely illustrative example, mention may be made of polyvalent formulas (mask-profiler, among others) based on crosslinkable or coagulable polymers (pseudo-latex, silicones), pigments or emollients. Mention may also be made of 20 oils, gels, emulsions, serums, etc. In the field of make-up mainly, it may be desirable to have applicators that offer more than one application characteristic, and / or that allow makeup with the same applicator
different surfaces. For example, in the field REF: 27302 of the masks, it may be desirable to be able to make up with the same applicator at the same time the eyelashes and the eyelids, or the eyebrows and the eyelids, or even the eyelashes and the eyebrows. Similarly, it can be interesting to have an applicator that, for the makeup of the same surface, offers two application characteristics, one for example for the application of the product, the other for the last touch, or in the case of a mask for the eyelashes, one for the application of the product, the other for the separation of the eyelashes after the application. One of the embodiments of the brush described in US Pat. No. 4,887,622 discloses a brush, whose three to five turns located in the vicinity of the free end of the brush, comprises more hairs than the others, to allow mainly the makeup of the shorter eyelashes or the corner of the eye. The application characteristics of this end portion remain, however, similar to the application characteristics of the rest of the brush. On the other hand, makeup with a hair-only type applicator has its limits that it may be desirable to be able to overcome, for certain applications. These limits are essentially linked to the lack of variety of possible application characteristics, although these last years have been marked by the arrival of new possibilities in terms of application characteristics, with the appearance of hairbrushes, whose number, nature, disposition, form, have been substantially changed. The overcoming of these limits also responds to a need for new marketing concepts, apt to allow a substantial development of the market in question, mainly with more "liquid" formulas than those used in traditional masks. However, the technique of molding brush applicators is known, in particular, from French Patent FR 2 505 633. However, the applicator does not cease to be a brush, with the same limits as those mentioned above. In the same way, it has already been proposed to mount on the free end of a twisted brush type brush, a small block of foam. The main function of this foam block is to prevent the user from injuring herself with the free end of the twisted edge around which the hairs are wrapped. However, the applicator does not stop being a brush with its limits and its drawbacks. Among these drawbacks not yet mentioned, one can mention the brittleness of the brushes and their more or less rapid deterioration, mainly after multiple passes through the draining devices, which subject the hairs to important stresses. Also, one of the objects of the invention is to make an applicator that allows obtaining, with at least two different application areas, at least two application characteristics, either for the same area to be treated, or for two different zones. Another object of the invention is to provide a new applicator concept, simple, economical to produce, robust and responsive to new market expectations, existing or potential. Other objects of the invention will appear in more detail in the description that follows. According to the invention, these objects are obtained by making an applicator, mainly for make-up product, comprising a first application area constituted by a support X axis, which has a plurality of reliefs or roughness on at least a part of the surface, said reliefs or asperities being able to retain the product on the surface, transport it and restore it to a surface to be treated, the support proceeding as well as the reliefs or roughnesses comprising the molding of a mouldable material, and a second application zone adjacent to the first, one of whose portions is integral with a first end of the first application area, said second application zone being constituted, at least in part, of a material suitable for pumping product in depth and / or natural or synthetic fibers. Thus, the first application area which, preferably, represents a substantial part of the axial length of the applicator that retains the product on the surface it defines, by capillarity or surface tension effect, whose holding capacity can still be increased by any treatment, chemical or electrochemical, or corona effect, or by projection of a varnish and fillers, to modify its surface condition in such a way, and make it more rough. The second application area is made up of a material that, due to its nature (fibrous or porous) is apt to retain the product on the one hand on the surface, and on the other hand more in depth (by capillary pumping, either on the material itself in the case of a porous material, or between the fibers). This difference in terms of the capillarity of the material, the one external, the other both internal and external, allows to apply the present product on the first application area, without risk of losing the present product on the second application area, because of its location more in depth. This way, an applicator with a double zone of application is carried out, and it lends itself perfectly to the sequential application it imposes, without risk of loss or sensitive spillage of the product to be applied in the second place. On the other hand, the combination of two application areas, one of which, in front, is mainly load on the surface, and the other of which, behind, is load both on surface and in depth, allows a draining perfect of the applicator assembly, insofar as the second application zone surprisingly allows to absorb all excess product on the first area, and thus improve its drainage. Advantageously, the first application area has an axial length of 2 to 10 times and, preferably, 3 to 7 times greater than the axial length of the second application area.
Preferably, the second application zone is axially aligned with said first application area. Alternatively, the second application area forms an angle with respect to the X axis of the first application area. This allows for certain applications to facilitate the application gesture of the present product on the second application area. The angle formed by the second application area relative to the first can be between 2 ° and 45 °, and preferably between 5 ° and 30 °. Alternatively, the applicator as a whole can form such an angle with respect to the axis of the rod, the first and second application areas being aligned with each other. The second application zone can be constituted by a brush, a twisted brush, a felt tip, a flocked tip, a foam, a flocked foam, a sintering, etc. Preferably, the second application area forms a sharp point in the direction of the end opposite the first application area. However, other forms are possible, mainly depending on the surface to be treated.
According to a variant of the invention, the first application area comprises a plurality of longitudinal and / or angular sectors, each of the sectors having reliefs of shape and / or dimensions and / or different arrangements and defining different application characteristics. . This allows to increase even the number of possible application characteristics with an applicator of this type. The reliefs or asperities may be constituted by grooves, grooves, peaks, diamond tips, grooves, grooves, projections, fins, etc. Such reliefs or asperities may be of uniform dimensions (depth, width) over the entire surface of the first application area, or they may be of variable dimensions. Typically, the depth of the reliefs may range from 0.1 mm to 3 mm, and preferably from 0.5 mm to 2 mm. The reliefs can be aligned axially and / or perpendicularly to the axis or staggered. This gives a great flexibility in the application of the product. In the case of a product to be applied on hair fibers, such as eyelashes, the ability to comb, smooth or separate the eyelashes after application can be played. According to a first embodiment, the first application zone comprises at least two flat, concave or convex faces, the reliefs being formed by grooves made in each of the angles of the first application area, and oriented perpendicularly to the axis X. The shape of the first application area is chosen according to the profile of the surface on which it must be applied to the product. By way of indication, the first application area may be cylindrical, conical, tronconical or rugby-ball-shaped, fish-shaped, water drop, peanut-shaped, etc. Advantageously, the first application zone comprises a second end opposite the first, said second end of a rod aligned with said axis X being integral, and including gripping means. The diameter of the rod can be between 0.8 m and 5 mm, and preferably between 1 mm and 2 mm. Preferably, the rod is of lower section than the middle section of the first application area of the applicator. This characteristic substantially improves the draining of the applicator, when it is extracted from the reservoir containing the product to be applied. The rod can be molded with the first application area. Alternatively, the applicator forms a different part in relation to the rod, on which it can be mounted by welding, gluing, snap-fastening, snap-mounting, etc. The gripping means may comprise measures able to cooperate with complementary means provided in the vicinity of an opening delimited by a free edge of a container containing said product, to seal said opening in a sealed manner. The fibers of the second application zone can be vegetable fibers (cotton, rayon, cellulose), animals, minerals or fibers of thermoplastic material (polyamide, polyester, nylon) and / or elastically deformable such as elastomers, thermoplastic elastomers, vulcanized elastomers, etc. The material suitable for pumping product in depth can be constituted by a sintering or a foam chosen from polyurethane, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyether, NBR (natural rubber), SBR (synthetic rubber) foams, etc. The materials used to form the first application zone can be thermoplastic materials such as polyethylenes, polypropylenes, polyacetals, polyurethanes, polyvinyl chlorides, polystyrenes, etc. and / or elastomers such as polyethylene, polyurethane, polyester elastomers, block polyether amides; the polyvinyl; the terpolymers of ethylene, propylene and a diene (EPDM); the styrene-butadiene polymers sequenced (SEBS-SIS); the elastomers of silicone, nitrile, butyl, etc., or of a mixture of such materials with vegetable fibers such as cotton or cellulose fibers. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the first application zone comprises at least one groove or groove extending axially over substantially the entire length of said first zone. In a particular embodiment, the first application area comprises at least two faces, said grooves or grooves being able to be arranged either in the vicinity of the edges separating two adjacent faces, or in the middle of said faces. Such grooves can have a depth between 0.5 m and 3 mm and a width comprised between 0.1 mm and 3-mm. Alternatively, the grooves or grooves may be arranged perpendicular to the axis, instead of longitudinally. They can communicate with each other or isolate one from the other. The second application zone can be fixed to the first one by gluing, welding, snap-fitting, seaming or obtained by overmolding or sub-molding with the first application zone. In a preferred embodiment, the second application area forms at its opposite end with its free end, an extension able to be inserted in an axial cavity provided in the support of the first application area, said cavity being isolated from the surface of the first application area. The extension may extend into the cavity over all or part of the length of the support. This characteristic is particularly advantageous because it allows, without increasing the external volume, to increase the pumping capacity of the second application zone, mainly during the draining, thus allowing to absorb almost all of the excess product on the first application zone, maintaining the second zone of application free of any excess product. Alternatively, if necessary, the longitudinal slits open into the interior of the axial cavity, in which case, the extension located inside the cavity serves as a bridge of material for the retention of liquid between the edges delimiting the slot. The extension may be of the same nature as the application area 7, or of a different nature. According to another aspect of the invention, a conditioning and application assembly of a makeup product comprising an applicator according to the invention is also carried out. A conditioning assembly of this type can comprise a container containing the product and whose free edge delimits an opening, the applicator being carried by a rod whose end opposite the applicator comprises means apt to removably seal said opening when the applicator is arranged in the interior of the container, draining means being provided for dosing the product on the applicator when it is removed from the container with a view to an application of the product.
According to a preferred embodiment, the draining means comprise a foam block axially traversed by a channel or at least one slot. By way of illustration, a foam of an elastomer such as polyurethane or polyether is used, mainly. Alternatively, the draining means comprise an organ in the form of a split diabolo. A draining member of this type can be made of an elastically deformable material, such as a thermoplastic elastomer. The invention consists, set aside the provisions set forth above, in a number of other provisions that will be clarified below, with reference to non-limiting examples of embodiment, described with reference to the attached figures, among which:
Figure 1 illustrates a first embodiment of the applicator according to the invention;
- Figure 2 illustrates a partial view of a second embodiment of the applicator according to the invention;
Figure 3A and 3B illustrate a perspective view and a sectional view of a third embodiment of the applicator according to the invention;
- Figure 4 illustrates a fourth embodiment of the applicator according to the invention;
- Figure 5 illustrates an applicator according to the invention, mounted on a rod equipped with means that allow its assembly on a conditioning and application assembly;
Figure 6 illustrates a fifth embodiment of the applicator according to the invention;
- Figures 7A-7B and 8A-8B still illustrate other variants of the applicator according to the invention; Y
- Figure 9 illustrates an embodiment of a conditioning and application assembly according to the invention. The applicator 1 represented by FIG. 1 comprises a first application zone 2, which constitutes the majority of the applicator and obtained by molding a material such as a resin or a thermoplastic powder. This first application area 2 delimits a volume centered on the X axis, of variable circular section between the first end 3 and the second 4. The surface of this application area has grooves 5 oriented perpendicular to the X axis of the applicator. The grooves can be of identical or variable depth, depending on the nature of the application. Such grooves are apt to retain product on the surface, between the vertices of the grooves, mainly due to the effect of surface tension. The second end 4 of the application area 2 is integral with a rod 6, intended as will be seen below for the grip of the applicator and for its assembly on a conditioning assembly. Preferably, the rod is obtained by molding with the application area. The diameter of the rod is of the order of 1 mm to 2 mm. The diameter of the application zone 2 is, in the vicinity of the ends 3, 4, of the order 5 to 7 mm, and of the order of 3 to 4 mm in the vicinity of the center. The rod may be constituted by a material identical or different from the material forming the molded part. The assembly constituted by the first application zone 2 and by the rod 6 can be molded in a molding device of the type forming an elongated model, determined by a plurality of mold parts in the form of sectors, which are joined by radial faces adjacent during the closing of the mold, said sectors being susceptible of a radial component movement between the closed position and an opening position. Such devices are well known in the field of molding, and therefore, do not need any additional detailed description. The material can be introduced into the mold by injection, compression or spillage. The first end 3 is integral with a second application zone 7, aligned axially with the first application area, and constituted according to this embodiment, by a flocked tip. A flocked tip of this type is constituted by an elastomer core, for example, covered by a flock of cotton fibers., of rayon or of polyamide 8. These fibers define a "carpet" of low thickness, apt to pump product by capillarity. The flock may comprise a mixture of hairs or fibers of different lengths and / or different. diameters, and / or of different natures. The pumping capacity is still accentuated by making the core of the flocked tip of sintered material or of alveolar material with open or semi-open cells. The length of the flocked tip can be of the order of 5 mm to 1 cm and its diameter in the vicinity of the end adjacent to the first application zone, is preferably less than or equal to the diameter of the end 3. The flocked tip can be mounted on the applicator by any appropriate means (gluing, welding, crimping, curling, etc.). Thus a brush of this type is particularly adapted for the makeup of the eyelashes with the area of application 2, then using the same formula, for the realization of a more or less fine treatment on the eyelid with the tip of the flocked tip 7. In the embodiment of FIG. 2, the grooves are replaced by protrusions 53, in the shape of a diamond tip, aligned or staggered. The second application zone 7 is constituted by a brush constituted by a tuft of hairs oriented axially. Also here, this network of fibers, nylon for example, is suitable for pumping by capillarity product and to retain it both on surfaces, and in depth, between the hairs.
In the embodiment of Figures 3A and 3B, the first application area is rectangular or square section. The section of this application area 2 decreases between the second end 4 integral with the rod 6, and the first end 3 integral with the second application area 7. In the same way as for the embodiment of FIG. 1, the surface of the first application zone has grooves 5 capable of retaining product on the surface. In addition, longitudinal grooves 10, 11, 12, 13 are disposed at each of the angles of the application area 2. These grooves 10, 11, 12, 13, as shown in the sectional view of Figure 3B are arranged so as to have their respective bottoms converging towards the X axis. The grooves 5 end at their ends in the grooves 10, 11, 12, 13. Such grooves contribute to substantially increase the surface of retention of the product by effect of surface tension. The depth of the grooves can vary between 0.5 mm and 3 mm. In this embodiment, the second application area is constituted by a felt tip. In this embodiment, the assembly of the felt tip on the applicator is made by means of a sleeve or axial extension carried by the end of the felt tip, opposite its free end, and suitable for insertion under pressure in a axial housing that longitudinally traverses all or part of the first application area, said axial housing being isolated from the outer surface of the first application area. The sleeve can also be held in position in the cavity by gluing or welding. With a mounting of this type, the pumping capacity of the felt tip is increased, without increasing the external volume of the applicator. This excess pumping capacity allows to substantially improve the autonomy of the second application area, and also allows to improve the draining of the applicator by absorbing all the excess product. In the embodiment of FIG. 4, the first application area 2 is triangular in cross section. The faces that delimit them are slightly concave. In the same way as for the embodiment of FIGS. 3A and 3B, the section of the molded application zone 2 decreases progressively, approaching the second application area 7. A longitudinal groove 10 is disposed longitudinally practically in the middle of each of the faces. Striae 14 are made on each of the corners of the triangle, to retain surface product, by effect of surface tension. The second application zone 7 is also constituted there by a sharp brush at its free end, and whose maximum section is preferably lower than the minimum section of the first application area 2. In the embodiment of FIG. 5, the first application zone 2 forms a right revolution cylinder, longitudinally traversed by at least one groove 10. The surface of the first application area has grooves 15 arranged over its entire length, perpendicular to the X axis, and which end at their ends in the groove (s) 10. The second application zone 7 is constituted by a tip of sintered material. The end of the rod opposite the applicator 1 comprises gripping means 16, which also form a cap capable of sealing a container containing the product to be applied. A cap of this type can be obtained by molding with the rod 6 and the first application area 2. The cap 16 comprises a side skirt 17, the outer surface of which can be covered with an upper covering (not shown). The internal surface of the side skirt comprises a thread 18 able to cooperate with a corresponding thread provided on the external surface of the neck of the container. The cap defines an axial tube 19 whose closed end carries the rod 6, and whose outer diameter is adapted to seal the opening of the product container in a sealed manner. The applicator shown in FIG. 6 is distinguished from the other embodiments because the first application zone 2 defines a plurality of longitudinal sectors., 21, 22 that present different reliefs, to allow more flexibility in the application characteristics of the applicator. Thus, a first sector 20 has projections in the shape of a diamond tip, arranged in a staggered pattern. A central sector 21 comprises grooves perpendicular to the X axis. A third sector comprises rows of serrated reliefs oriented parallel to the axis X. The second application zone 7 is constituted by a twisted brush 23 of maximum diameter at most equal to diameter of the first application area, and configured in tip in the direction of its free end. The twisted brush 23 is made conventionally by means of a rigid or semi-rigid wire, folded into a fork, which is wound on itself, after having appropriately arranged nylon fibers, for example, between the two arms of the bent wire. This area of application in the form of a twisted brush can be used advantageously to separate the tabs after application by means of the molded part 2, or to make up the corner of the eye, or any other surface difficult to access. The brush 23 can be mounted on the end 3 of the first application area by inserting it under pressure into an axial housing made in the support of the first application area 2, a hairless end of the brush core. Figures 7A-7B illustrate another embodiment of the applicator according to the invention. According to this embodiment, the first application area 2 has an elongated section, generally flat, for defining two main faces, traversed from one part to the other by a groove or light 10 extending axially over substantially the entire length of the molded part. , and delimited mainly by two longitudinal edges 50, 51. The end 3 of the molded part, opposite to the rod 6, comprises an axial hole, inside which a tip of flocked felt 7 is mounted under pressure. The tip of the felt is of sufficient length to extend axially within the slit 10, over substantially the entire length of the molded part, and has its tip emerging beyond the molded part. This emergent part forms the second application zone 7, adjacent to the first application area 2. The part 52 of the felt tip located inside the molded part 2, acts as a bridge of material between the edges of the molded part, delimiting the slit 10, to make at least one liquid bridge between said edges 50, 51. It should be noted that the part 52, because of its location slightly retracted relative to the edges 50, 51 of the molded part, they do not come into sensible contact with the surface to be treated, and only serve as support for the liquid retained on the surface by the first application zone. In the same way as for the embodiments of FIGS. 1 and 3A, grooves 5 are arranged on the external surface of the first application area, to retain product on the surface by effect of surface tension. An earlier view of the device of Figure 7A is shown in Figure 7B. In the embodiment of FIGS. 8A and 8B, the molded application zone 1 has a substantially circular section and is provided with three slots 10, 11, 12, angularly spaced 120 ° and communicating with each other at the X axis. The external surface generated by this molded part comprises grooves 5 perpendicular to the X axis to retain product on the surface. The width of the slits is of the order of 1 to 2 mm. In length, the slits extend over practically the entire axial length of the application area 2, without, however, opening onto the ends 3, 4. A block of flocked foam 7 is fixed by gluing, in alignment with the X axis , on the end 3 of the first application area. A block of foam of this type, in the form of a drop of water, is particularly adapted for eyelid makeup. An anterior view of the applicator of Figure 8A is shown in Figure 8B. In the same way as for the previous embodiment, bridges of material can be made by molding inside the slits 10, 11, 12 to realize liquid bridges.
Figure 9 illustrates an embodiment of a conditioning and application assembly using a brush such as that described with reference to figures 1 to 6. This assembly 100 comprises a tank 101, the end of which is closed by a bottom 102, and the other end of which is terminated by a neck 103 in the form of an additional piece, fitted on a free edge of the container 101. The external surface of the neck 103 has a thread 104 able to cooperate with the thread 18 carried by the internal surface of the side skirt 17 formed by the cap 16 solidary rod. The inner skirt 19 of the cap has an outer diameter adapted to seal the opening 105 delimited by the free edge of the neck 103. A top covering 106 is arranged on the cap. Inside the neck, in the vicinity of its lower end, a block of open or semi-open cell foam 109 is assembled by gluing or welding, forming a draining member. The foam block 109 is axially traversed by a channel 110 (smaller in diameter than the external diameter of the rod 6) or by two grooves arranged crosswise. A draining member of this type is described in more detail in French Patent Application FR 96-02477 filed on February 28, 1996 in the name of the Requesting Firm. Alternatively, the draining member 109 is in the form of a split diabolo, described in more detail in French Patent 2 703 911. In the closed position of the cap 16, the applicator 1 has its free end in the vicinity of the bottom 102 of the container 101 and wet the product P, the rod through the channel 110 of the draining member 109. To use the applicator, the user unscrews the cap 16 and removes the applicator. During this extraction movement, the rod is cleaned by the organ 109, as well as the applicator 1. In reality, when passing through the drainer, the latter retains all excess product on the application area 2. Only the product contained in the hollow parts of the reliefs or asperities that it carries, remains on the application area 2. The application zone 7 is also drained when passing through the foam block, in such a way that the defining tip is perfectly sharp, and not present at its free end, drop excess product. Any excess product that may remain on the molded part of the applicator is poured on the second application area, where it is absorbed. The draining is perfectly homogeneous over the entire length of the applicator, that is, of identical quality for the two application areas. The applicator, perfectly loaded and drained, is thus ready to be used. Even in the case where the second application zone is a twisted brush, as described with reference to Figure 6, the hairs they comprise are not deteriorated, mainly due to their maximum section, which is preferably less than the minimum section of the molded part 2. In the detailed description which follows, reference has been made to preferred embodiments of the invention. It is evident that there may be provided variants without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed below. By way of example, the applicator, in particular the molded part 2, can be curved in order to improve the precision of the make-up.
It is noted that in relation to this date, the best method known by the applicant to carry out the present invention, is the conventional one for the manufacture of the objects to which it refers. Having described the invention as above, the content of the following is claimed as property:
