Description
DISC BRAKE AND PLACEMENT AND TRANSPORT DEVICE FOR A DISC BRAKE
The present invention relates to a disc brake and to a positioning and transport device for a disc brake, and this disc brake has at least one guide pin with a threaded portion, which is slidably disposed in a bore of the brake housing and by which the brake housing is adapted to be attached to a steering knuckle of a vehicle. German patent application No. 42 03 318 discloses a disc brake of this type. In a hole in the brake housing, in this disc brake, a shock absorber sleeve, made of rubber, is inserted, in which the guide pin can be dislodged. The damper sleeve has a portion which projects from the hole and, in the assembled condition, covers the free end of the guide pin, which projects from the hole. When the brake housing is not mounted, the guide pin is disposed relative to the damper sleeve, so that the threaded portion of the guide pin is disposed within the damper sleeve, with the result that the free end of the guide pin is project from the shock absorber sleeve. During transport of the brake housing, the guide pin is easily moved inside the damper sleeve. This can cause assembly problems and / or damage to the thread. Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a disc brake and a positioning and transport device for a disc brake, where the aforementioned problems are eliminated. According to the present invention, this object is achieved because a sleeve is arranged on the guide pin, so that this guide pin is fixed in relation to the hole in the brake housing. It is achieved with this solution, in a surprisingly simple manner, that the thread of the guide pin does not project from the damper sleeve, and the ends are rather flush with it or placed inwards. Damage to the thread during assembly on the steering knuckle is avoided, and the brake housing is allowed to easily mount above the disk and steering knuckle. In addition, the sleeve protects the portion of the guide pin, which projects in a backward direction during transport. Without such a sleeve, the guide pin is not fixed in position, it will be shaken, it will be displaced and, possibly, it will be lost. In a preferred aspect of the present invention, the sleeve, interposed between the guide pin and the damping sleeve, is supported with one of its ends in a projection of the damping sleeve. Conveniently, the length of the sleeve is thus dimensioned so as to completely cover the portion of the guide pin, which projects from the cushion sleeve. Suitably, the material of the guide sleeve is made of cardboard or plastic. One embodiment of the present invention is illustrated in the single figure of the drawing and is described in the following. The drawing shows only the part of the housing 2 of the brake, in which the hole 4 for accommodating the guide pin 6 is incorporated. The guide pin has a threaded portion 8 and a sliding portion with an enlarged diameter 10. A dampening sleeve 12 is mounted in the hole 4, and part of the dampening sleeve projects from the hole. The shock absorber sleeve 12 includes four circumferential inner ribs, which are arranged substantially in the area of the hole 4. A rib is designated with the reference numeral 14. The cushion sleeve has an extension 16 to the interior, adjacent to the rib, designated with reference number 14. Another circumferential rib 18 is provided at the end of the damper sleeve The drawing shows the guide pin 6 relative to the damper sleeve 12 in the transport position or the position before assembly. In this position, the guide pin 6 is displaced in relation to the damper sleeve 12, so that the threaded portion 8 is disposed within the cushion sleeve 12, while the free end of the guide pin 6 projects out of the cushion sleeve 12. A sleeve 20 is mounted on the free end of the guide pin 6. The internal diameter of the sleeve 20 is dimensioned so as to provide the friction coupling between the guide pin and the sleeve. Thus, the sleeve 20 can not be easily displaced in relation to the guide pin 6. The sleeve 20 abuts its inner end on a step 22 of the damper sleeve 12, so that the assembly, comprised of the guide pin 6 and the sleeve 20, is prevented from moving beyond the step. The outer diameter of the sleeve 20 is dimensioned so that the rib 18 is seated with a preload on the sleeve 20. Due to the development of the friction, a movement in the opposite direction is only possible after the friction is exceeded. The length of the sleeve 20 is such that it completely covers the end of the guide pin 6, which projects from the cushion sleeve 12 in this position.
The assembly is as follows. Initially, the shock absorber sleeve 12 is mounted in the brake housing 2. Next, the sleeve 20 is mounted on the damper sleeve and the guide pin is inserted into the damper sleeve until it is flush with the sleeve 20. The guide pin is screwed to the steering head of the vehicle in the brake assembly . Then, the sleeve 20 can be removed and a protective cap 24 is used to close the cushion sleeve 12.
