Abstract

In a vehicle having an engine for generating power and a battery for supplying electricity to electrical devices, a system for preventing the battery 1 from excessively discharging comprises a switching unit 2 for opening/closing an electrical circuitry for supplying electricity from the battery 1 to electrical devices; an engine monitoring unit 3 for monitoring operation of the engine and for producing a signal corresponding to the state of engine operation; and a control unit 4 and 5 for controlling operation of the switching unit 2 according to the signal output from the engine monitoring unit 3, the control unit 4 and 5 having time delaying means so that the switching unit 2 opens the electrical circuitry after delaying for a given time from the time of engine stop. The engine monitoring unit 3 comprising a pickup coil L1 that emits a prescribed pulse signal upon being applied high voltage from an ignition coil during operation of the engine, and an amplifier OP1 that amplifies th e pulse signal output from the pickup coil L1 and produces a continuous pulse train. The system may comprise a battery voltage monitoring unit 7, a manual switching unit 8, a discharge current monitoring unit 9 and a warning system 11 controlled by a warning system control unit 10.
