Abstract
Se describe un medidor de agua que tiene un totalizador de medidor que tiene un codificador con emisores de ondas electromagneticas, por ejemplo, emisores infrarrojos para medir el flujo de agua y la direccion del flujo de agua a traves del medidor. El codificador tiene dos de tres emisores separados que dirigen rayos infrarrojos a intervalos de tiempo predeterminados hacia una rueda detectora giratoria que tiene una porcion de superficie reflectora y una porcion de superficie no reflectora que mira a los emisores y a un sensor infrarrojo. La proporcion de superficie reflectora de la rueda detectora refleja los rayos infrarrojos incidentes sobre la misma hacia el sensor. Un microprocesador conectado al sensor actua en las senales que provienen del sensor para determinar el flujo de material. El totalizador del medidor transmite la sena a un receptor distante. El microprocesador de un totalizador de medidor tiene un algoritmo para evitar que el totalizador del medidor envie senales hasta despues de que el totalizador del medidor o un medidor de agua que tenga un totalizador de medidor este instalado y haya pasado agua a traves del medidor.
