Description
MEMBER OF INSERT BELOW A CUP
DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY
This invention relates to insert members below the cup. More particularly, but not exclusively, the invention relates to insert members below the cup for brassieres (bras). The bras are made with wire inserts under the cup to maintain the shape of the cups. Also, the inserts provide a support for the breasts. The inserts have the disadvantage that the paint or coating of the paint can wear out and the insert can rust, causing unsightly stains. According to one aspect of the invention, an insert member is provided below the cup for a breast support arrangement, the insert member comprises an elongated curved main portion, shaped to conform, generally, to the breasts to be held, the insert member is formed of a plastic material. Preferably, the breast support arrangement is an article of underwear to support the breasts, for example, a bra, although it may be another article of clothing to support the breasts, such as part of a swimsuit, example, the top of a bikini.
Preferably, the plastic materials are capable of providing support to the breasts and to keep the arrangement open. Preferably, the insert member below the cup is arranged below a cup of the breast support arrangement, and can be constructed to keep the cup open. The main portion, preferably, comprises a wire, suitably, an inner wire. Preferably, the main portion is sufficiently flexible to allow deformation, for example, when it is washed, so that the insert member can return to its original shape. Desirably, the plastic material is a polymeric material. Preferably, the plastic material is an acetal polymer, advantageously, an acetal homopolymer. Alternatively, the plastic material is an acetal copolymer. The plastic material can be a resin. A suitable plastic material is sold under the trademark Delrin, which is a registered trademark of E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company. The plastic material can be a flexible and / or elastic material. The plastic material can be a thermoplastic polyester, a thermoplastic polyester elastomer and / or a liquid crystal polymer. The plastic material may comprise a filler or a reinforcement, which may be in the form of glass. The filler or reinforcement may comprise, from about 10% w / w of the plastic material up to about 20% w / w of the plastic material or up to about 30% w / w of the plastic material. The appropriate plastic material can be sold under the trademarks VECTRA, CELANEX and RITEFLEX by the company Ticona. The elongated main portion, preferably, has rounded ends, and may, in one embodiment, have a profile which is generally oval in its configuration. In other embodiments, the main portion may have a profile which is in any other suitable form. The opposite ends of the main portion may be rounded. In one embodiment, at least one end, and preferably both opposite ends, are provided with a terminal ear member to allow the insert member to sew into the breast support arrangement. Each terminal ear member may comprise a generally planar portion extending outward from the main portion. The flat portion may be generally circular. Preferably, the terminal ear member extends from the opposite ends of the main portion. In another embodiment, the main portion may comprise an outer region having a profile having first and second support elements, and a narrower connection element extending between the support members. Preferably, the outer region comprises a profile that has an hourglass shape.
Preferably, the main portion includes an internal region, which may extend from the external region. The inner region may be of a generally oval configuration. The main portion may comprise the external region as described above and the or each of the terminal ear members as described above. Alternatively, the terminal ear member may extend substantially along the main portion. The embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a front view of an insert member below the cup; Figure 1A is an end view of the insert member below the cup shown in Figure 1; Figure 2 is a perspective view of part of the insert member below the cup, shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a front view of a further embodiment of an insert member below the cup; Figure 3A is an end view of the insert member below the cup shown in Figure 3. Figure 3B is a view along the lines B-B in the
Figure 3;
Figure 4 is a front view of a further embodiment of an insert member below the cup; Figure 5 is a view along the lines V-V in the Figure
4; Figure 6 is a view along lines VI-VI in Figure
5; Figure 7 is a side view of the insert member below the cup shown in Figure 4; and Figure 8 is a top view of the insert member below the cup, shown in Figure 4. Referring to Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, these show an insert member below the cup 10 for a bra . The insert member below the cup 10 is in the form of an inner wire for a cup of a bra. The insert member 10 comprises an elongated curved main portion 12 formed of a plastic material, and is curved to conform to the size and shape of the sinuses to be held. The insert member 10 is sewn into a hem under the cups of the bra to provide a breast support. The main portion 12 is formed by molding and has a profile of a generally oval configuration. In some modalities, the profile may be kidney-shaped. The main portion 12 has opposite ends 14, 16, which are rounded.
The provision in the preferred embodiments of the main portion 12, having a generally oval profile and having rounded ends, provides the advantage that this reduces the risk of the insert member 10 piercing the support. The insert member below the cup 10 is formed of a suitable plastic material, which combines sufficient rigidity to provide support for the breasts, and also sufficient flexibility to allow flexion and twisting of the insert member '10 during use and washed, so that it can return to its original configuration. Such a suitable material is an acetal homopolymer resin, for example, one sold under the trademark Delrin, a registered trademark of E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company. Another embodiment of the invention is shown in Figures 3, 3A and 3B, which is generally similar to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2, and comprises the same features. These characteristics have been marked with the same numerical references. In addition to the features shown in Figures 1 and 2, the embodiment shown in Figure 3 also includes flange members 18, 20 provided at the ends 14, 6 of the main portion 12. The flange members can be formed of the same material as the main portion 12. Alternatively, the flange members may be formed of a rubberized material, which may be a rubberized version of the material from which the main portion 12 is formed. The flange members 18, 20 allow the insert member to be sewn into the bra. As seen from Figures 3A and 3B, the profile of the main portion 12 is generally kidney-shaped. In some embodiments, the flange members 18, 20 extend substantially along the entire length of the main portion 12, as shown in the dotted lines in Figure 3, and designated by the number 22, to allow sewing along of the length of the main portion 12. This may be particularly suitable for use in sports bras, and allows the insert member to sew in the support substantially along the entire main portion 12. In Figures 4 to 8 , an additional embodiment is shown, which is generally similar to the modalities shown in Figures 1 to 3B, and comprises many of the same features. These characteristics have been marked with the same numerical references. The embodiment shown in Figures 4 to 8, differs from those shown in Figures 1 to 3B, in that the main portion 12 comprises two regions, a first region or external region 30, and a second region or internal region 32. The member of insert 10 shown in Figures 4 to 7 is sewn into the bra, so that the outer region 30 is arranged adjacent to the external region of the sinuses, and the inner region 32 is arranged adjacent to the internal region of the sinuses. The outer region 30 has a profile shown in Figure 6, which comprises first and second opposed elongated support elements 34, 36, which are connected to each other by a connecting element 38. The connecting element 38 is of a narrower width than the supporting elements 34, 36, so that the profile of the outer region 30 is generally hourglass-shaped, as shown. The provision of the outer region 30 having an hourglass-shaped profile, provides the advantage that it allows the outer part to rotate when the bra is put on, and therefore, provides improved aesthetics and is more comfortable for the user. user. As shown in Figure 5, the outer region 32 of the main portion 12 has a profile, which is generally oval in shape. Therefore, various embodiments of an insert for a bra are described, which is formed of a plastic material, and preferred embodiments of which have an oval profile and rounded ends. Thus, the preferred embodiments have the advantage that they will not rust or corrode in any other way, but also have the advantage of overcoming a problem with the prior art of the insert members, where the coating wears after use continuous to show the bare metal, there is a danger that it will pierce the wearer's body. Also, a disadvantage of the insert members of the prior art is that they can be detected by metal detecting machines, for example, in airports, causing pregnancy to the user. The provision of an insert member below the cup, formed of a plastic material, overcomes such problems.
Various modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the invention, for example, the main portion may have a generally circular profile. In addition, the insert member can be used in other forms of underwear to support the breasts or in swimsuits. It should be appreciated that the dimensions and size of the insert member may vary depending on the size of the breasts to be held by the bra. While in the above specification, it is intended to draw attention to those characteristics of the invention that are believed to be of particular importance, it should be understood that the Applicant claims protection with respect to any characteristic or combination of patentable characteristics, referred to hereafter. and / or shown in the drawings, whether or not a particular emphasis has been made to them.
