Abstract

Se describe un metodo para reducir los contaminantes oxidantes atmosfericos, que comprende poner en contacto un contaminante oxidante atmosferico, tal como ozono, con un agente reductor libre de metales preciosos, en donde el agente reductor comprende al menos un elemento de transicion y/o uno o mas compuestos que incluyen al menos un elemento de transicion, en donde el potencial de electrodo estandar de la reaccion redox que incluye el elemento de transicion y una especie ionica del elemento de transicion o entre la especie ionica y el elemento de transicion presente en el o cada compuesto y una especie ionica adicional del elemento de transicion, es menor de +1.0 voltio. Los agentes reductores ilustrativos incluyen una mezcla de oxido de cobre (11) opcionalmente reducido, y oxido de zinc sobre un soporte de alumina, oxido de cobre (11) per se, y oxido de hierro sobre un soporte mixto de alumina/ceria o una mezcla de cualesquiera dos o mas de los mismos.
