Abstract

The present invention is directed to lightening cosmetic compositions for the treatment of hyperpigmentation. These compositions comprise two ligthening ingredients:magnesium ascorbyl phosphate and UNINONTAN-U34TM (extract formulation of cucumber extract and lemon extract). These two ingredients do not interfere with each other, and instead provide increased lightening capabilities for these compositions.

BACKGROUND The color in human skin is caused by the pigment melanin. MAP works as a lightening agent by inhibiting tyrosinase activity. U N I NONTAN U-34M R, an essential formulation, is distributed by Lipo Chemicals of Paterson, N .J. , US and is manufactured by I nduchem of Switzerland. This composition is marketed as a cosmetic ingredient for its skin lightening properties. Its ingredients are cucumber extract (5.0%), lemon extract (6.0%), sodium citrate (20.0%), propylene glycol (23.5%) and water (25.5%). The use of a skin lightening ingredient may not be effective for individuals with significant hyperpigmentation or "silly" freckles or age spots. However, the combination of skin lightening ingredients can produce negative results. Some ingredients, such as MAP, are unstable at lower pH ranges and under other conditions. In this way, the use of MAP is incompatible with rinse ingredients that significantly reduce the pH of the composition, or alter it in other incompatible ways.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION Some embodiments of the invention and one or more ways of practicing the invention will now be described in more detail. Some illustrative, non-limiting examples of the preferred embodiments will also be described. The present invention comprises a cosmetic lightening or bleaching preparation, which provides a safe and effective amount of magnesium ascorbyl phosphate and a safe and effective amount of UNI NONTAN U-34M R.
