Abstract

Un receptor de television con un descodificador MPEG es configurable para descodificacion y exhibicion de alta definicion total o, exhibicion de definicion inferior de costo reducido. El descodificador (10-33) utiliza una red de reduccion de datos de modo doble controlable que emplea selectivamente reduccion de detalle horizontal (29) y recompresion de datos (30) entre el descodificador y la memoria de cuadro de descodificador (20) desde la que se deriva la informacion de imagen que se va a exhibir (27). La cantidad de reduccion de datos es seleccionada por el fabricante de conformidad con la resolucion del dispositivo de exhibicion, por ejemplo, igual a o menor que la resolucion de alta definicion. El tamaño de la memoria de cuadro también es seleccionado por el fabricante de conformidad con la resolucion del dispositivo de exhibicion.
