Abstract

The process of the present invention is characterized in thet magnesium oxyformate or oxyacetate is prepared in sol form, which is obtained by mixing magnesium oxide compounds with formic or acetic acid dissolved in water. An alumina sol is added to this mixture at room temperature and by stirring, said sol being homogenized under stirring to a pH of about 2.5 to about 9.5, so that a mean particle size of about 1 to 50 ??m is obtained. A vanadium malate or oxalate solution is added to said gel, said solution being obtained by reacting maleic or oxalic acid with a vanadium pentoxide, and a rare earth, and especially cerium nitrate. The sol so obtained is spray-dried and calcined between 600 degree C and 1100(C in an air flow of between 2.0 to 8.0 1/h, for 2 to 20 h. The sol is subsequently mixed with a FCC catalyst between 1 - 10 percent by weight, and they are deactivated with water steam between 10 - 100 percent at 8(C, for 1.0 - 10.0 h. Once they are deactivated, their activity is tested for SOx removal at pilot plant level in a sulfur-containing gas oil load; micro tests are also performed by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), introducing a sulfur-containing gas mixture. The material so obtained performs as additive and/or catalyst for the removal of or decrease in SOx and Nox of the FCC catalytic disintegration units, thereby contributing to comply with ecological requirements which are related to industrial emissions, both in the individual and global plane of the refinery industry.
