Abstract
Esta invención se refiere a un método y a un aparato para remover o eliminar partículas de un primer líquido, a partir de un segundo líquido, utilizando la ley de Stokes, el primer líquido tal como un aceite, tiene una fuerza ascensional más grande que el segundo, tal como el agua, con ambos líquidos que están combinados inmisciblemente en una mezcla de fluido que se encuentran fluyendo. Los oleajes u ondas en el flujo de la mezcla, están amortiguados, y la mezcla está restringida a tener una velocidad del flujo horizontal, limitada, a través del tanque del aparato,. Una cámara separadora con una pluralidad de subcanales paralelos formados por placas verticales espaciadas, tiene una geometría que reduce y controla el número de Reynolds de los subcanales, y controla la velocidad a través de los subcanales, provocando que el flujo a través de los mismos, sea sustancialmente no turbulento. Una primera compuerta inhibe el flujo del sedimento hacia la cámara separador. La longitud de la trayectoria de flujo a través de la cámara separadora, es tal que las partículas tendrán suficiente tiempo para elevarse arriba de una salda corriente abajo, cerca del fondo de la cámara separadora, y hacia una cámara de retención o contención. Un gradiente de velocidad transversal, formado dentro de los subcanales, provoca que las partículas giren o den vuelta, y sigan una trayectoria curva hacia las regiones de velocidad, longitudinales, inferiores, adyacentes a las paredes de los subcanales en donde las partículas se aglomeran y se elevan hasta la superficie. Una unidad elevadora vertical está provista opcionalmente para remover o eliminar partículas para elevarse arriba de la salida de la cámara separadora, y varios filtros pueden remover o eliminar otras impurezas.
