Abstract
En una modalidad de la presente invención, un selector de escalera de tasa de bits de codificación adapta las escaleras de tasas de bit a la complejidad de los datos fuente; al momento de recibir datos fuente, un analizador de complejidad configura un codificador para codificar repetidamente el ajuste de datos fuente a un parámetro de cuantificación constante para un valor diferente para cada codificación, el analizador de complejidad procesa los resultados de la codificación para determinar una ecuación que relacione una métrica de calidad visual con una tasa de bits de codificación; la unidad de cubeta resuelve esta ecuación para estimar una tasa de bits de cubeta a un valor predeterminado de la métrica de calidad visual; con base en la tasa de bits de cubeta, la unidad de cubeta asigna los datos fuente a una cubeta de complejidad que tiene una escalera de tasa de bits predeterminada asociada; de manera conveniente, la selección de la escalera de tasa de bits permite la codificación que de manera óptima refleja compensaciones entre la calidad y los recursos (por ejemplo, almacenamiento y ancho de banda) a través de una variedad de tipos de datos fuente en lugar de un solo tipo de dato fuente "típico".
