Abstract

La invención se relaciona a una cápsula de liberación sostenida intrarruminal que es capaz de suministrar una dosis de liberación sostenida de un primer medicamento a un animal, así como cualquiera o ambos de una dosis de vaciado de un segundo medicamento o mineral, y una dosis de salida de un tercer medicamento o mineral. La cápsula puede tener una sobretapa disolvible moldeada de almidón plastificado que permite que una dosis de vaciado de medicamento sea mantenida entre la sobretapa y un extremo de la cápsula. Un pistón dentro del cuerpo de la cápsula puede ser modificado para permitirle acomodar una dosis de salida de medicamento dentro de su interior hueco que está alineado con una abertura en el extremo de la cápsula que permite la liberación de los medicamentos al rumen. Después de la inserción de la cápsula en el animal la sobretapa (si está presente) se disuelve y se separa de la cápsula para liberar la dosis de vaciado de medicamento. El medicamento de liberación sostenida luego se suministra por la vía del extremo perforado, seguido por la liberación de la dosis de salida del medicamento (si está presente).
