Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un método para la formación de un recubrimiento protector en un tejido vegetal, el método comprende etapas consecutivas de: (a) proporcionar una planta que tiene una superficie exterior, en donde una porción de la superficie exterior comprende una superficie expuesta; (b) aplicar una primera solución acuosa que comprende un agente de reticulación a la superficie exterior de la planta; y (c) aplicar una segunda solución acuosa que comprende un polisacárido, que es susceptible a la reticulación por el agente de reticulación, a la superficie exterior de la planta, de esta manera se forma un recubrimiento protector sobre la superficie expuesta de la planta. Se proporciona además una materia vegetal postcosecha que comprende un primer segmento, que está cubierto por piel natural; y un segundo segmento, que tiene una superficie expuesta, en donde el segundo segmento está recubierto por un recubrimiento protector que comprende un polisacárido y el primer segmento está esencialmente libre de dicho recubrimiento protector.
