Abstract
En concordancia con una modalidad de la presente invención, se contempla un método para mejorar la exactitud de ubicación de un procedimiento de extirpación por radiofrecuencia realizado en un paciente. El método incluye identificar un nervio objetivo a extirparse, en donde el nervio presuntamente es una fuente de dolor; suministrar un agente farmacológico al nervio para bloquear temporalmente la transmisión de señales nerviosas a lo largo del nervio; verificar que el nervio es la fuente de dolor si el bloqueo temporal reduce un nivel de dolor experimentado por el paciente; colocar un marcador de referencia adyacente al nervio si se verifica que el bloqueo temporal reduce el nivel de dolor experimentado por el paciente; ubicar el marcador de referencia; y suministrar energía de radiofrecuencia a un área de tejido adyacente al marcador de referencia mediante una sonda. El área de tejido corresponde con el nervio, y la energía de radiofrecuencia se aplica en un nivel suficiente para extirpar el nervio.
