Abstract
Provided is a method by which it is possible to form a phosphate coating on steel wire at good productivity within a short time, without inflicting severe working-induced alteration of the surface of the steel wire. This method includes a step for continuous formation of a phosphate coating on steel wire prior to cold working, and a descaling step, preceding formation of the phosphate coating, for jetting a slurry that contains grit-like abrasive particles onto the steel wire, producing a new surface on the steel wire. In preferred practice, the method further includes a preheating step for preheating the steel wire, between the descaling step and the coating treatment step.
