Abstract
Se describe un sistema y método para mejorar la operación de las instalaciones de atención médica por medio del mejoramiento del cumplimento de la higiene de las manos y reduciendo las infecciones asociadas con la atención médica y sus costos asociados. El método puede comparar el beneficio financiero del cumplimiento mejorado de la higiene de las manos con el costo de mejorar el cumplimento, por, por ejemplo, proveyendo el monitoreo electrónico que reporta la higiene de las manos dentro de la instalación. Los costos del monitoreo actual de la higiene de las manos y de las HAI actuales se determinan, el costo de un sistema de monitoreo electrónico para la higiene de las manos y los beneficios en cuanto a costo del cumplimiento mejorado de la higiene de las manos se determinan, y un sistema de monitoreo electrónico para la higiene de las manos se instala e implementa dentro de la instalación de atención médica, en donde el cumplimiento mejorado de la higiene de las manos beneficiará a la instalación.
