Abstract

The present invention refers to the removal of arsenic contained in water for agricultural and human consumption by means of superparamagnetic manganese oxides obtained by chemical means. The superparamagnetic manganese oxides have a size of 9nm and a high surface area of 80.23 m2/g. These oxides are mixed in arsenic-polluted water with a concentration higher than 100 ppb, the agitation process being performed by an electric engine and the permanent use of supermagnets activated by a pneumatic system for attracting the superparamagnetic oxides. The superparamagnetic manganese oxides are obtained by a chemical precipitation process. Once the superparamagnetic manganese oxides are obtained, these are mixed by an electrical and mechanical agitation system, the oxides being subsequently precipitated by permanent supermagnets that generate, according to the arrangement thereof, an increase in the magnetic flow lines, which reduce the settling time of the superparamagnetic oxides. The oxide s are transported, by an automatic pumping system to a secondary tank, after being precipitated so as to perform the separation of the arsenic from the manganese oxides. The arsenic separation process is carried out by the change of pH in the solution where the superparamagnetic manganese oxides and the arsenic are included.
