Abstract
Se describe un proceso para bio-oxidación de sulfuros en mena mineral que tiene metales tales como oro ocluido o dispersado dentro de la mena como un sulfuro. La primera etapa tritura la mena en partículas con una distribución de tamaño que tiene una P80 de menos de 6.3 mm (0.25 pulgadas) con partículas menores de 106 micrómetros en el intervalo de 15% a 40% en peso. Los aglomerados se forman al agregar a las partículas de mena trituradas una solución de inoculado ácida que incluye agua, en donde la solución incluye además microorganismos capaces de bio-oxidar los sulfuros. Los aglomerados después se colocan en por lo menos un recipiente de contención de bio-reactor para formar un lecho de mena. El proceso continúa por bio-oxidación de los sulfuros en el lecho de mena; después se hace recircular la solución a través del lecho de mena y continua la bio-oxidación hasta que se obtiene la cantidad de bio-oxidación deseada. Después el metal es recuperado de la mena.
