Abstract
Un sistema de floculación balastado que ablanda químicamente el agua y hace que las partículas de la dureza precipiten del agua y cristalicen. Durante el transcurso de la cristalización, las partículas de la dureza crece y forman flóculos balastados que se separan del agua en forma de lodo mediante una unidad de clarificación, produciendo un efluente clarificado. El lodo separado que contiene los cristales de la dureza se dirigen a un separador donde el lodo se separa en dos corrientes, donde cada corriente tiene cristales de dureza contenidas en ésta. En un diseño del proceso, una corriente contiene los cristales de la dureza relativamente pequeños, y la otra corriente contiene los cristales de la dureza relativamente grandes. La corriente que tiene los cristales de la dureza relativamente pequeños se dirigen a un primer reactor y se mezcla con el agua que entra y un reactivo ablandador. La corriente que tiene los cristales relativamente grandes se dirige a un segundo reactor corriente abajo y se mezcla con agua y un floculante que facilita el crecimiento de los cristales de la dureza.
