Abstract

The card (2) has two transparent films (12, 14) arranged on two sides of a core (8) and covering a side of a valuable object. The valuable object is located in a central area of a through-aperture (4) and embedded in transparent resin (10) that is completely filled in an area peripheral to the valuable object and between the object and contour of the through-aperture such that a space remaining in the aperture around the valuable object is completely filled by the resin. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a card.

Description

CARD THAT INCORPORATES A OBJECT OF VISIBLE VALUE FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a card that incorporates an object of visible value. The card forms a substrate or support for this valuable object. In particular, the object of value is a small precious metal ingot or a coin or piece of value. A "coin or piece of value" means not only a coin or piece made of relatively expensive material, but also, for example, a commemorative piece, a medal or one or more gems or jewels.
The card, in bank card format and having a thickness which can be greater than the standard ISO for bank cards, is used for example as a means of advertising or simply as a support for an object of value given to a client, employee, sports person, the winner of a game, etc.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION It is known to place a small gold ingot of between 1 and 10 grams in a cavity made in the body of a plastic card. In a first variant the body of the card has an opening of passage of the profile of which substantially fits that of the ingot. In another variant, the dimensions of the passage opening are larger than those of the ingot. Two sheets of transparent plastic are laminated respectively on the two surfaces of the body of the perforated card. The ingot is thus confined between the two sheets of plastic. To retain the ingot in a substantially central position in the opening, a raised rim or portion forming a frame is provided in one or both of the plastic sheets. The frame is obtained for example by thermoforming. It can also be fixed to one or both of the plastic sheets. This frame surrounds the ingot so that the latter remains in a substantially central position in the opening. In particular, the two plastic sheets are welded together along the frame in order to form a closed bag for the ingot. A transparent peripheral area is therefore obtained around the ingot. However, the thick frame inside the opening is visible and not attractive. Although transparent, the frame causes a visual deformation and prevents the side surface of the ingot from being seen correctly. However, the two plastic sheets can easily be deformed in the opening area at the periphery of the transparent frame. In this area, and in the bag where the ingot is placed, the air is generally trapped between the two sheets of plastic. The card is not, therefore, compact and it is possible for the ingot to be manipulated so that it moves out of the plane of the card body. Consequently, the card can be easily damaged and is of limited longevity. i BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a high-quality card incorporating an object of value, in particular, a small ingot of precious metal or a coin or piece of value, which exhibits the object of value in a perfectly visible manner. all sides, that is, in its full three-dimensional form.
The present invention therefore relates to a card that forms a support for an object of value incorporated in the card and that includes a card or core body with a through opening in which the value object is arranged, the dimensions of such an opening of 1 step are larger than those defined by the contour of such an object of value in the main geometric plane of the card. This card also includes at least two transparent films respectively arranged on both sides of the card body or core and respectively covering one side and the other of the object of value, such an object of value is located in a central area of the opening of passage of so that there is a transparent peripheral area surrounding the i object inside the step opening. This card is I characterized because the value object is embedded in a transparent resin which completely covers the area surrounding the object of value between the periphery of the passage opening and the object of value so that the space remaining in the opening around the object of value is completely filled by the resin.
The present invention also relates to a method for manufacturing at least one card, forming a support for an object of value incorporated in such a card, which includes the following steps: A) Take a card or core body in the form of a sheet of plastic having at least one passage opening.
B) Place at least one object of value respectively in at least such step opening, each object The value has smaller dimensions than the corresponding aperture and is placed in such an opening so as to leave a visible peripheral area around such an object which allows the object to be seen in all sides, each object of value is retained in a central area of the corresponding opening by means of temporary or permanent security or by means of temporary or permanent positioning.
C) Provide a transparent resin in each opening to fill the remaining space around the object of value placed there.
D) Fixing at least one first film and second partially transparent film respectively on both sides of the body of the card or core, such; two films cover the transparent resin and each valuable object.
Other particular features of the invention will be set forth below in the detailed description of the invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES The invention will be described below with reference to the appended drawings, given by way of non-limiting example, and in which: - Figure 1 is a perspective view of a card according to the invention which incorporates a small ingot of precious metal in an opening of larger dimensions Figure 2 is a partial cross section of a card according to the invention obtained via the first or second implementation of the method: of manufacturing according to the invention.
Figures 3a to 3d show several stages of a first implementation of a method according to the invention for the manufacture of a card forming a support for an object of value.
Figures 4a to 4e show several stages of a second implementation of a method of compliance coh the invention for manufacturing a card forming a support for an object of value.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION A card 2 according to the invention, forming a support for an object of value 6 incorporated in such a card, will be described below with reference to the Drawings 1 and 2. In the variant shown in the Figures, the object of value is an ingot of small gold which forms an object i plane with an upper surface 6a and a lower surface 6b. The card 2 includes a card body or core 8 with a passage opening 4 in which the small gold ingot is arranged. The opening of passage has larger dimensions than those defined by the contour of the ingot in the main geometric plane of the card which is parallel to the upper surface 2a and lower surface 2b thereof The card also includes at least two transparent films 12 and 14 respectively arranged on the two sides of the card body or core 8. These two films respectively cover the upper and lower surfaces of the ingot 6. This ingot is located in a central area of the opening of step 4 and a transparent peripheral area 16 is arranged around the ingot within the opening of passage. This transparent peripheral area is homogeneous and has, in particular, an amplitude substantially equal to or greater than one millimeter (lmm). It forms an opening in the card 2 making the card seen through the peripheral area 16. It will be noted that the gold ingot thus appears to be floating in the air in the middle of the opening in the body of the card. It is therefore easy to see the gold ingot on all sides. The object of value can thus be properly seen in three dimensions, that is, in easy to appreciate the volume; of the same.
According to the invention, the gold ingot is embedded in a transparent resin 10 which completely covers the peripheral area 16 to such a gold ingot. A "resin" includes, in particular, an adhesive. The peripheral area extends between the external contour of the ingot and the periphery of the passage opening, in other words between the lateral surface of the ingot and the wall of the opening of passage 4. As a result, the remaining space in this aperture of Step around the ingot is completely covered by resin. It will be noted that the ingot can be formed of any precious metal. In other variants, the object of value is a coin or flat piece, a small medal, a small work of art, a jewel or gem, etc.
In accordance with the preferred variant shown in Figure 2, the resin 10 also covers the upper surface 6a and the lower surface 6b of the small precious metal ingot. In this way, the ingot is completely covered by the resin which forms an adherent interface between the ingot and the two transparent outer films 12 and 14. The resin thus covers any remaining space in the opening 4 and forms a rigid mass or semi-rigid between the two transparent films which each have, in the area of the opening of step 4, a flat surface in the continuity of the upper surface 2a, respectively lower surface 2b of the card. The resin preferably has a certain capacity of elastic deformation. However, the resin 10 is also distributed over both surfaces of the core 8 and forms two adherent films respectively between the core and the two transparent outer films 12 and 14. The card of compliance with this preferred variant in this way has two external surfaces completely flat 2a and 2b and the card does not have any air pocket. It is compact and solid.
In general, the invention also relates to a method for manufacturing at least one card forming a support for an object of value incorporated therein, such method includes the following steps: A) A card body or core 8 is provided in the form of a plastic sheet having at least one through opening 4.
B) An object of value 6 is placed in the opening of step 4, such an object of value has smaller dimensions than such an opening, and it is placed in the opening in order to leave a visible peripheral area 16 around such an object; which allows the valuable object to be seen on all sides on the manufactured card as explained above. The object of value, in particular a small ingot, is maintained in a central area of the passage opening by a temporary or permanent security means or by a temporary or permanent positioning means.
C) A transparent resin is placed at least in the opening of passage to fill the remaining space around the object of value placed there.
D) At least one first film and second partially transparent film are respectively arranged on both sides of the card body or core, such two films cover the transparent film and the valuable object.
It will be noted that all items are provided in the manufacturing facility, which includes at least one bench or work surface! It will be noted that the steps of the aforementioned method can include sub-stages that occur at different times during the manufacturing of the card incorporating the value objection. In this way the previous stages are not necessarily successive stages as it will become clear; in particular, in the second implementation which is described below. In particular, the resin can be added in part several times. The permanent security means are, for example, formed by the resin, which can be formed of several specific materials and adhesives. In a variant; e the I which is not shown, this security means may include a permanent means to position the object of value in the central area of the opening. For example, thin arms are arranged projecting from the periphery of the opening towards the central area, such thin arms forming part of the core of the card. The arms can be elaborated when I the opening is cut off. Two horizontal and two vertical arms can be provided respectively from the half of the four sides defined by the periphery of the opening. Temporary security means can be formed by a low adhesion adhesive, a silicone paste, etc. The temporary positioning means can be formed by a fastening device, work bolts or by a grab or pick-up arm for the valuable object which has been used to carry and place the object in the opening, then finally to retain the The object in the central area until part of the resin placed in the opening of passage has at least partially solidified. It will be noted that the resin can be placed in the opening before or after the valuable object is placed in the opening, and deposited in the peripheral area 16. Those skilled in the art can contemplate several variants to position and retain the valuable object. in the desired position during the manufacture of the card, at least until at least part of the resin 10 placed in the passage opening has hardened sufficiently to be able to position and retain such an object of value in the central area of the same. the opening step.; It will be noted that the method according to the invention is advantageously provided for the batch manufacture of the cards. Thus, a plastic sheet of a certain thickness is provided, selected, in particular, in accordance with the thickness of the related object of value, and having a plurality of through apertures in which a plurality of valuable objects are respectively placed. The resin is added simultaneously for all the cards to be manufactured. Transparent external films are also provided with substantially the same dimensions as the plastic sheet. A final cutting stage is provided in order to obtain the individual cards. It will also be noted that the sheet of plastic and / or plastic films may include various patterns, impressions and / or security elements and / or information that relates to the item of value. In particular, at least one of the transparent films is suitable for laser printing.
A first implementation of the card manufacturing method each forming a support for an object of value will be described below with reference to Figures 3a to 3d. The method for manufacturing a card will be described below, but the same method can easily be applied to the manufacturing batch of several cards, as indicated above.
The transparent film 12 with a first part 10a of the resin in the upper part thereof is placed in a press and the core 8 with the opening in step 4 is placed in the upper part. The core can obviously be placed in the resin before the assembly is placed in the press to carry out the assembly operation. In a preferred variant, a roller press is used to carry out the assembly operation. This eliminates the presence of air bubbles between the transparent film and the core. While the first part 10a of the resin is still sufficiently liquid (viscous liquid state) to allow penetration, the small ingot 6 is added, by means of a gripping or picking tool provided, for example, with a suction system for retaining the ingot by vacuum, and the ingot is deposited in the central area of the aperture 4, preferably compressing in the resin present at the bottom of the aperture. Then, the first part of the resin hardens to ensure that the ingot is maintained in its initial position in the subsequent stage. If necessary, the gripping or picking tool continues to hold the ingot until the resin is sufficiently rigid to retain the ingot in the desired position itself. When the resin is a thermosetting adhesive, the heat can be provided to accelerate the polymerization of the adhesive during this phase. In another variant where the solidified resin can be easily melted again, the resin 10a has almost completely solidified when the ingot is added. Since this ingot is formed of precious metal, it is heated prior to the penetration of resin 10a and fuses the resin locally, causing such resin to deform as a result of the pressure exerted on the ingot. In another variant, the resin 10a can be fused locally at the bottom of the opening only before the ingot is provided and partially penetrates the resin.
Once the ingot is retained in a sufficiently rigid manner by the first part of the solidified resin, a second part 10b of the resin is placed in the upper part of the core 8 and in the opening 4, particularly in the ingot. This resin is preferably deposited in the form of parallel strands initially separated by slots for efficient removal | of any residual air. The second transparent film 14 is then applied over using a roller press 20. After the second part of the resin has solidified1, a card 2 according to the invention is obtained. The resin transparent films ensure that the ingot can be seen perfectly on all sides and the peripheral zone 16 such ingot is not completely seen through it. The surface condition of the card of high quality, comparable with the standards required for bank cards.
According to variants of the first implementation, the first part of the adhesive is either deposited directly on a non-stick working surface (for example made of silicon or TefIon®), or a non-stick work sheet is provided (silicon paper). or a PE sheet) and the first part of the resin is deposited in the upper part. In the same way, to distribute and fill the remaining space in opening 4, a second worksheet can be used. Once the resin 10a and 10b has solidified, an intermediate product is thus obtained. In order to finish the card, the two removable worksheets, which can be easily separated from the resin, are removed, and the > Two transparent films are applied on either side of the intermediate product. In order to do this, a press or roller presses may be used and a hot melt adhesive or adhesive film is advantageously provided in liquid form in order to assemble the transparent films to the intermediate product, which increases the flatness of the card. In another variant, 1 transparent external films are simply thermo-I compressed against the two surfaces of the intermediate product.
I With reference to Figures 4a to 4e, a second implementation of the manufacturing method in accordance with the present invention will be described below.
A worksheet 24 is first of all placed on a work surface and the body of the card or core 8 is placed at the top and retained in a stable position relative to such worksheet. A low adhesion adhesive 26, which forms a means for temporarily fixing the ingot in the worksheet, is arranged in such a worksheet at least in the region of the central area of the opening of step 4. In one variant, this adhesive from. Low adhesion is deposited on the lower surface 1 of the ingot which is then placed in such a through opening. It will be noted that instead of the low adhesion adhesive, a flexible paste or film which adheres slightly to the ingot or evens the relief of such an ingot can be provided to retain such an ingot in place in the steps of Figures 4c and 4d . Then, a first part 10a of the resin is added at least in the opening of passage. In a variant shown in Figure 4d, the transparent film 12 is placed in this first part of the resin and applied using a press or roller 20. After this first part of resin 10a has solidified, the obtained assembly is turned over and the work sheet 24 and the low adhesion adhesive 26 are removed. Finally, as shown in Figure 4a, a second part 10b of the resin is placed at least in the ingot 6 and the transparent film 14 is placed in the assembly and applied using a press or roller 20.
In this second implementation, several variants are possible. In this way, in a variant, instead of the transparent film 12 in the step of Figure 4d, a second work sheet with low adhesion to the resin is used to distribute such resin in a uniform manner and fill the remaining space in the opening 4. In another variant , the step of Figure 4a can also be achieved using a low adhesion worksheet. An intermediate product is thus obtained with two substantially flat surfaces after the worksheets have been removed. Therefore, the two transparent external films can be subsequently applied to the two sides of the intermediate product, as described with reference to the first implementation. It will be noted that it is also possible to contemplate introducing a security element, for example an official seal or hologram inside, below or on top of the resin arranged between the body of the card or core and a transparent external film.
