Abstract

Se proporciona un método para evaluar rápidamente las condiciones respiratorias superiores. Más específicamente, el método involucra el poner en contacto una muestra obtenida del tracto respiratorio superior del anfitrión con una tira de prueba. La tira de prueba contiene un indicador que proporciona una respuesta de aspecto amplio en la presencia bacterias, moho, hongos u otros microorganismos diferentes de su respuesta en la presencia de virus. Esto permite una evaluación rápida y simple de si la muestra de prueba esta infectada con un virus u algún otro microorganismo. Para ayudar a un clínico a identificar el curso adecuado del tratamiento, también puede ser deseable el obtener información adicional acerca del tipo particular de microorganismo presente. En este aspecto, la tira de prueba contiene cualquier arreglo de uno o más indicadores diferenciadores que proporcionan una cierta respuesta espectral en la presencia de diferentes tipos de microorganismos. Por ejemplo, el arreglo puede proporcionar una cierta respuesta espectral de bacterias gram negativas, pero una respuesta espectral completamente diferente en la presencia de bacterias gram positiva.
