Abstract

Un circuito (6) de balasto que proporciona la protección térmica para una lámpara fluorescente, el cual incluye un transformador de acoplamiento que acopla un circuito (8) inversor con un circuito de control. Un primer y segundo arrollamientos (68, 70) del transformador en el circuito inversor y un tercer arrollamiento del transformador en el circuito de control, están enrollados alrededor de un núcleo común de ferrita. El núcleo de ferrita tiene una temperatura Curie que se aproxima a una temperatura umbral máxima permisible para la lámpara. Cuando la temperatura del balasto se aproxima a la temperatura Curie del núcleo de ferrita, su permeabilidad y su inductancia decaen dramáticamente, lo que provoca un incremento en la frecuencia operativa en el circuito inversor. Esta frecuencia operativa incrementada provoca que un capacitor en el circuito de control se cargue a un voltaje umbral, en el cual la energía para el circuito inversor se reduce. La lámpara entonces se atenúa sin apagarse hasta que la temperatura se reduce a un nivel aceptable.
