Abstract
A lid structure comprising a metal lid in the form of a disc (20) and a plastics ring (1). A lug (6) on the ring is snap-fitted around the exposed edge (25) of the lid. The lid structure can be fitted onto a filled container by application of a downward force until a lower profile (7) on the ring is forced around a curl or other feature on the top edge of the container. Outward expansion of the lid structure provides further retention on the container. The plastics ring of the lid structure has one or more weakened regions which can be torn to release the lid structure from the container without the need for any tool.
Description
"RECIPIENT AND EASY OPENING COVER STRUCTURE"
FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to an easy opening container. In particular, but not exclusively, it refers to a lid structure for an easy opening container for packaging liquids such as paint, or solids, as dust.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION It is known to provide metal containers for packaging paint in which the container rjpne a body with a stitched or integral base, a metal ring which is sewn to the open end of the can body, and a closure cap to Pressure that can be opened when inserting a lever from a channel on the edge of the window. In an alternate design, the closure cap a pres has a U-shaped channel to insert the lever, and a hinge, which extends radially outwardly from the channel. A plastic ring is fastened on the brim of the lid and extends around a protruding circumferential edge rolled out of the can body when the lid is pressed down on the can body. Numerous configurations have been desired < *?
recess but essentially all these require > insertion of a tool to release a latch between the lid and the body of the container or ring. E ^ The designs are based on the opening principle of the blade and therefore require some form of tool in order to open the container in a leveraged manner. In some examples, the lever acts against a spring wall of the container, ring or cover so that the container is recreatable and there is minimal distortion of the container after the opening.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION According to the present invention, there is provided a manually removable lid structure comprising: a metal lid, having a central pa * and an outer wall ending in a ring generally extended outwardly; and a plastic ring comprising an annular support extended towards the front and a peripheral skirt hanging from the support, the skirt having an inwardly extended handle which is held against the edge of the cover with the support extended on the cover ring, and a lower profile which is complementary to the profile of the upper edge of a container body to which, during use, the limpet structure is to be fixed; characterized because the line
- - rupture along which at least a part of the bottom pe ii of the ring is manually deformable or shaved to open the container to which the lid structure is attached. EP change, with the levered caps of the prior art, the plastic ring of the lid structure provides operability when the lid structure is attached to a container, without the need for any tool. After tearing the lower ring profile, the lid structure is removable from the container, so that the container is presented to the user having only two parts. The central panel of the lid can be attached to the wall e < tepo? by a channel which is generally U-shaped. This prevents excessive intrusion of the lid structure into the slack of the can body. Typically, sealing compound may be provided around the lid ring and adjacent to the outer wall. The rupture line is generally tear-off and defines a strip or strip of evident plug. According to a further aspect of the present invention, there is provided an easy opening or other container comprising: a metal can body 1 having an open top part; the lid structure as described above, clutching the perl
bottom of the ring at the edge of the opening of the can body; in which the outer wall of the metal lid sits inside the container body and the outer wall and the container body have complementary bearings extended outwards, and in which, during use, the rupture portion of the ring profile is manually operable by removing the can body lid structure. Typically, the can body has an edge outwardly at the edge of the opening such that the ring engages this can body edge. According to still another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for sealing an easy-open container, characterized by the leisure because it comprises: placing the lid structure on the open end of a metal container body; applying the downward pressure to force the tap and ring combination down onto the container body such that the lower profile of the plastic ring engages the upper edge of the container body and an outer wall of the cover is adjacent to the container. part of the side wall of the container body; v keep pressure down while applying a radially outward expansion force to deform the outer wall of the lid and the body wall
adjacent inside the complementary bearings. Generally, the method can be used with a lid structure having a U-shaped channel such that an expanding tool can be inserted into the channel to apply radial force to the outer wall of the channel to form the bearings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Preferred embodiments of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view from the top of the plastic ring; Figure 2 is a perspective view from the bottom of the plastic ring, Figure 3 is a side cross section of plastic ring rail, through the cut in the "C" area, Figure 4 is a side cross section plastic ring ring, through the cut in the "D" area; Figure 5 is a schematic side view of the plastic ring and the metal lid assembly; Figures 6 to 9 are schematic side views showing the application of the lid structure on a can body, and Figure 10 is a schematic side view
closed container.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The plastic ring of Figure 1 has an annular support 2 and a skirt having an interior wall 3 and an exterior wall 4. A tongue feature 5 is provided on the exterior wall for user fastening when a container is opened as described in detail below. The handle 6 of the example is a fully circumferential handle for engaging a metallic tpa to form a lid structure and a lower profile 7 on the inner wall for engaging the container body. Figure 2 is an isometric view below the ring of Figure 1, showing the cutting regions "A", "B", "C" and "D". In the side sections of Figure 3 and / or 4, the annular support 2, the handle 6 and the tongue 5 can be clearly identified. The per! ll mferioi 7 includes the teeth 8 in the non-coitaua regions that suffers to hold the body of the recipient. The cut in area "C" is indicated by reference 9 in Figure 3 of area "D" by reference 10 extending from tab 5 of Figure 4. Figure 5 shows lid structure c, e combines the plastic ring l with a metal lid).
The lid 20 comprises a central panel 21, intermediate and outer walls defining a channel 22, leading the outer wall 23 to a ring 24 extended outwards, and ending in a raw edge. As can be seen from the figure, the plastic ring is clamped on the ring 24 so that the support 2 covers the ring 24 and the handle 6 covers the edge of the cover at 25. In Figure 6, the pressure towards down is applied by the tool 40 on the support 2 in order to force the lid structure down over a loaded container 30. Since the contacts of the lower profile 7 make contact with the edge 31 of the can body, the ring 1 rotates towards outside and closes around the edge within the position of Figure 7. In Figure 7, the lid structure is attached to the body of J ta 30, with the sealed compound 26 between the ring 24 of the metal lid and the upper part of the edge 31. The lower profile 7 of the plastic ring has a rim complementary to that of the edge 31 and provides a uniform contact around the edge. The next step of applying the lid structure provides additional clutch between the outer wall 23 of the channel 22. An extended portion h, id below 41 of the tool 40 has a radially outwardly extending bearing 42 which is brought into contact nn
Wall
radial. The downward pressure is maintained while "* - -, and the expansion force is applied to ensure correct positioning of the bearing 42 against the outer wall 23. Keeping the pressure down during expansion, the compression of the compound is maintained during the expansion. This compression is also maintained after locking the lid on the body and partially by the plastic ring. The combined forces are applied until complementary bearings are formed on the lid wall 23 and the wall of the can body 32, beyond the The edge 31 of the tool 40 is then folded radially, keeping the pressure downwards (Figure 9) and the tool 40 is removed to leave the finished structure of the lamp. The invention has been described only as an example and changes can be made to the The method for replacing the lid structure or applying it to a body of the patient without being isolated from the scope of the invention defined by the claims. For example, although the complementary feature 32 has been described as "bearing", clearly this feature could be a series of bearings, independent handles? another complementary feature
