Abstract

The invention relates to processes for removing dyes from wastewaters, namely a process for complete degradation of Methylene blue in wastewaters with high content thereof.The process, according to the invention, comprises the catalytic oxidation of Methylene blue at its concentration of at least 120 mg/L by oxygen bubbling at the temperature of 50…70°C and gas pressure of 2 atm, for 2…3 hours, at the same time as a catalyst is used activated carbon derived from nutshells with a content of basic functional groups of 0.555 mg-equiv./g and mesopore area of 410 m2/g, the ratio between the catalyst and Methylene blue being of 50:3.The result consists in the complete degradation of dye with formation of simple components - sulphates, free nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water, which are not toxic.
