Abstract

The invention relates to analytical chemistry and microbiology, namely to a spectrophotometric method for determining total selenium in the algal biomass.The method comprises the mineralization of the sample, addition of sodium hydroxide for the precipitation of Fe3+ and Cu2+ ions, masking of the remaining Fe3+ and Cu2+ ions by binding them to the cation exchanger, addition of 4.5 M HCl, 0.25% KI, 0.2% starch solutions and determination of selenium concentration using a calibration curve.
