Abstract

The invention relates to the conservation of the cultural patrimony, namely to a process for repatination of restored zones by superficial passivation of old bronze and brass articles, discovered during the archaeological excavations or those from museum collections that have undergone interventions with the view of stopping the destruction by corrosion.Summary of the invention consists in that the process includes application of an alcoholic dispersion, containing stibium pentasulphide, as passivating agent, and two additives, consisting of phosphor pentoxide or orthophosphoric acid(40%) and thiourea, in the mass ratio, alcohol:Sb2S5:P4O10:SC(NH2)2=40:8:1:1 or alcohol:Sb2S5:H3PO4:SC(NH2)2=39:8:2:1, correspondingly. The alcoholic dispersion is obtained by fine grinding of the solid components, first separately, then all together, at the gradual addition of the metered quantity of alcohol and is applied onto the clean surface at the room temperature during 5…10 minutes, then the surface is repeatedly treated in 2…3 hours, with subsequent washing with alcohol and drying at the maximum temperature of 35°C and relative humidity of at least 30%. Afterwards, it is additionally applied a protective film, containing alcoholic solution of propolis, melt of wax and paraffin or silicone resin. The result consists in obtaining a protective patina, uniform in thickness and colour, climatically resistant, with good adhesive properties.
