Изобретение относится к сельскому хозяйству и может быть использовано на селекционных опытных станциях и других учреждениях биологического профиля для оценки в лабораторных условиях исходного материала на всех этапах селекционного процесса по группам спелости. Целью изобретения является повышение точности, упрощение и ускорение способа. Осуществляют биохимический анализ зерна на содержание свободного пролина, по количеству которого судят о группе спелости растений. В качестве раннеспелых отбирают формы с пониженным содержанием пролина. 8 табл.
