Abstract

The present invention relates to a dynamic test system for hot and cold cylindrical projectiles for use in studying the dynamic behavior of materials at varying temperatures. The principle of this method consists in heating or cooling a projectile then launching it at a given speed using a pneumatic cannon and making it enter into impact with a rigid obstacle. This invention is the object of two subsystems: the first subsystem is used to heat a sample using an electrical resistance, while the second subsystem allows this sample to be cooled by circulating a liquid of cooling. Each of these subsystems is thermally insulated with an insulating layer. The thermal insulation allows to widen the ranges of high and low temperatures which can be reached during the tests, with the aim of obtaining precise results and a more efficient ballistic study.
