Abstract
The invention relates to analytical chemistry, in particular to methods for detecting environmental contamination, and can be used for qualitative and quantitative determination of the content of twenty-eight pharmaceutical compounds, as well as for the qualitative identification of the most common metabolites (<200 compounds) of pharmaceutical compounds in untreated and purified municipal wastewaters using high performance liquid chromatography in positive and negative ionisation mode, combined with ultra-high-resolution Fourier transformation ioncyclotron resonance mass spectrometry detector operated in full spectra detection mode. The sample preparation is carried out by the dispersive method using a mixture of water and acetonitrile (volume ratio 50:50) and magnesium sulphate/sodium chloride (ratio 4:1) for the extraction, further processing of the extract is performed by acetone, and sample reconstruction for the analysis is performed in water/methanol mixture (volume ratio 8:2) with 0,1% of formic acid. The technique improves sample preparation without use of solid phase sorbents and additional purification steps needed, and ensures suitability for screeing of drug resiues in wastewater samples. The technique provides rapid and efficient sample preparation for both basic and acidic assays using an instrumental method with improved sensitivity and precision for direct analysis and rectrospective screening of drug residues in wastewater samples.
