Abstract
The present invention is directed to certain aza cyclophexapeptide compounds having given general structure formula. These compounds are characterised in having a nitrogen attached to the cyclohexapeptide ring at the 5-carbon of the 4-hydroxy ornithine component. The compounds of the present invention are generally obtained as mixtures of stereoisomeric forms in which one form usually predominates. The compounds described, their pharmaceutically acceptable salts and acid addition salts are useful as an antibiotic, especially as an antifungal agent or as an antiprotozoal agent. As antifungal agents they are useful for the control of both filamentous fungi and yeasts. They are especially adaptable to be employed for the treatment of mycotic infections caused by Candida species, Cryptococcus species and Aspergillus species. They are also useful for the treatment and/or prevention of Pneumocystis carnii pneumonia to which immune-compromised patients are especially susceptible.
