Abstract

본 발명은 VOD(브이오디:Video On Demand) 서비스 데이타의 저장이 가능한 셋탑박스에 관한 것으로서, 특히 서비스 제공자로부터 제공받은 VOD 서비스 데이타의 일부분을 하드디스크에 저장하였다가 통신 접속이 끝난 후 하드디스크에 저장된 VOD 서비스 데이타를 사용자가 다시 시청할 수 있도록 함으로써, 사용자가 필요로 하는 데이타를 영구적으로 보존할 수 있고, 또한 VOD 서비스 데이타가 다운로드되는 시간이 감소됨으로 통신요금을 절약할 수 있도록 한 VOD서비스 데이타의 저장이 가능한 셋탑박스에 관한 것이다.
종래의 셋탑박스(4)에 의한 VOD 서비스는 사용자의 VOD 서비스를 요구에 대해 실시간으로 영화, 음악, 뉴스, 홈쇼핑 등의 정보가 제공되며, 이 정보들은 실시간으로 제공되기 때문에 서비스 접속이 끝난후 똑같은 정보를 다시 원할때는 또다시 VOD 서비스를 요구하여야만 하기때문에, 잦은 VOD 서비스 접속으로 인한 사용자의 요금부담이 증가될 뿐만 아니라 사용자에게 불편함이 가중되는 문제점이 있다.
따라서, 상기 문제점을 해결하기 위한 본 발명은 서비스 제공자로부터 제공받는 VOD 서비스 데이타의 일부분을 하드디스크에 저장하였다가 통신 접속이 끝난후 하드디스크에 저장된 VOD 서비스 데이타를 사용자가 다시 시청할 수 있도록 함으로써, 사용자가 필요로 하는 데이타를 영구적으로 보존할 수 있고, 또한 VOD 서비스 데이타가 다운로드되는 시간이 감소됨으로 통신요금을 절약할 수 있도록 한 VOD 서비스 데이타의 저장이 가능한 셋탑 박스이다.

Claims (2)

  1. 사용자의 리모콘 키이 조작에 따라 입력되는 리모콘 신호를 수신하여 MPU(11)로 출력하는 리모콘 수신부(10)와, 상기 리모콘 수신부(10)에서 출력된 신호에 따라 셋탑박스의 각부를 제어하기 위한 제어신호를 출력하는 MPU(1)와, 상기 MPU(11)에서 출력된 제어신호에 따라 VOD 서버와의 접속 및 VOD 서비스 데이타의 디코딩 동작을 제어하는 시스템콘트롤러(12)와, VOD 서버와의 접속을 위한 인터페이스(13)와, VOD 서버로부터 MPEG압축되어 전송된 데이타중 영상데이타를 MPEG 디코딩하는 MPEG 영상디코더(14)와, VOD 서버로 부터 MPEG압축되어 전송된 데이타중 음성데이타를 MPEG 디코딩하는 MPEG음성디코더(15)와, 상기 MPEG 디코더(14)(15)에서 디코딩된 영상 및 음성 데이타를 D/A변환부(18)로 출력하는 멀티플렉서(16)와, 상기 멀티플렉서 (16)에서 출력되는 VOD 영상데이타가 TV 또는 모니터상에 화면 출력될 수 있도록 콘트롤하는 그래픽 콘트롤러(17)와, 상기 멀티 플렉서(16)에서 출력된 VOD 영상 및 음성데이타를 아날로그 신호로 변환시켜 TV 또는 모니터로 공급하는 D/A변환부(18)와, MPU(11)에서 출력된 제어신호에 따라 VOD 서비스 데이타를 하드디스크(20)에 저장시키거나 하드디스크(20)에 저장된 VOD 서비스데이타를 읽어들여 MPEG디코더 (14)(15)로 공급하는 하드디스크 콘트롤러(19)와, VOD 서비스 데이타를 저장하기 위한 다수의 하드디스크(20)로 구성된 것을 특징으로 하는 브이오디(VOD) 서비스 데이타의 저장이 가능한 셋탑박스.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 하드디스크 콘트롤러(19)는 MPEG디코더(14)(15)에서 디코딩되기 전 상태의 MPEG 압축된 VOD 서비스 데이타를 하드디스크 (20)에 저장시킬 수 있고, 또는 MPEG 디코더 (14)(15)에서 디코딩된 후의 VOD서비스 데이타를 하드디스크 (20)에 저장시킬 수도 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 브이오디(VOD)서비스 데이타의 저장이 가능한 셋탑박스.
