종래의 일반벽돌 즉 모래와 시멘트를 혼합하여서된 벽돌은 중량이 무거워 인력의 소비가 많고 파손율이 많으며 건물의 자중에 많은 영향을 주게 되므로 건물 골조의 대형화를 초래하게 되어 공비의 상승을 초래하게 되며 단열 및 방음기능을 거의 기대할 수 없어 별도의 단열재나 방음재를 사용해야 하는 폐단이 있어 단열과 반응기능을 갖춘 벽돌의 경향화가 요구되어 보조골재로 연탄재, 질석, 퍼라이트, 슬러지등을 이용하여 시멘트와 혼합시켜 성형하여 경량벽돌을 제조하였다. 그러나 이와같은 경량벽돌은 어느정도 경향화의 효과는 얻을 수 있으나 벽돌의 강도를 유지하기 위해 시멘트를 과다사용하게 되어 단열과 방음효과가 저하될 뿐만 아니라 보조골재인 연탄재, 질석, 퍼라이트, 슬러지 등이 시멘트와 비중이 서로달라 혼합시 균일한 혼합이 이루어지지 않으며 응집력이 부족하여 풍화작용에 약하며 파손율 또한 많은 단점이 있는 것이다.Conventional bricks, that is, bricks made by mixing sand and cement, are heavy, consume a lot of manpower, have a high rate of breakage, and have a large influence on the weight of buildings. 상기와 같이 성형되는 벽돌은 소성성형된 인조골재가 경량이므로 벽돌의 경량화를 꾀할 수 있으며 이러한 인조경량골재의 접착제로 불포화 폴리에스테르 수지를 혼합사용하므로 불포화 폴리에스테르수지가 경량골재의 표면에 도포되면서 경량골재를 서로 접착시켜주게 되어 경량골재가 가지고 있는 기공을 덮어 주게되어 기공에 내재되어 있는 공기와 외부를 차단해주게 되어 이러한 기공들에 대해 단열 및 방음효과를 얻을 수 있고 경량골재가 생산과정에서 미숙된 골재의 강도를 유지시키며 경량골재에 함유되어 표면에 노출되는 산화철 등의 산화를 방지하는 효과가 있다. 또한 불포화 폴리에스테르 수지가 경량골재 표면에 도포됨으로서 경량골재가 방수가 되므로 이러한 경량골재로 이루어진 벽돌이 방수효과를 갖게 되는 것이다. 석분과 유리 섬유는 불포화 폴리에스테르의 고형화를 돕게되고 고형화된 불포화 폴리에스테르의 강도증진에 기여한다.As the brick is molded as described above, the plastic molded artificial aggregate is lightweight, and thus, the weight of the brick can be reduced.
